THE Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment, through the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), yesterday took its ‘Pick It Up Guyana’ campaign to the mining town of Linden in Region 10 (Upper Demerara/Upper Berbice).

This came after a successful launch last June 5 at the National Park in Georgetown, to observe World Environment Day, under the theme: ‘Green Economy: Does it include you?’. In a press release, the ministry said, “As a continuation of planned activities for World Environment Day, the Environmental Protection Agency, under the auspices of Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment, will host a “Ride for the Environment” on June 10 in Linden, which will start at the Amelia’s Ward Bus Shed at 08:00 hrs and end at the Co-op Crescent. At the end of the race the Linden aspect of the “Pick It Up Guyana” campaign will be launched”.

Prizes will be awarded to the youngest and oldest participants, and also to the largest contingent participating in the Ride for the Environment. It is expected that the secondary schools and local scout groups and other community based youth groups from Linden will participate in this event.

At the end of the Ride for the Environment in Linden, a representative from the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment will address the participants and formally launch the “Pick it Up Guyana” campaign, the release said.
“Meanwhile, the “Pick it up Guyana campaign will continue to be expand to include all regions, with a collaborative effort of stakeholders towards environmental and community enhancement across Guyana,” the release said.

Complex economist and politician can only boast about his academic qualification and the selfless sacrifice he made as a "PPP polling agent" in 1992 elections. Keep it up brother. Fame and fortune lies on the horizon.

When I was in primary school, the student's duties were to sweep the school yard daily, pick up the trash from the school surrounding, stretch out and recite the Lord's prayer before attend to classes. This environment awareness was embedded in us. Self-help was another great idea to build stronger and cleaner communities. I was involved in both at a time when volunteer service was an esteem privilege to get involved. I would like to know what school Tar_k and Stormborn attended that they don't know about the envnvironment, and a renewed effort to show awareness to the cause.

You keep that for those who take pride in the garbage and floods in GT after 20 years of PPP.
