EGION TWO STUDENTS FORCED TO TAKE CLASSES UNDER BICYCLE SHED

Grade Ten students of the Johanna Cecelia Secondary School in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) are being forced to take classes under a bicycle shed after being put there by the school’s Headmaster Alex George following complaints that the classroom was too hot. The move under the shed was a temporary one to accommodate the children and to relieve their physical discomfort as a result of the heated classroom, but from all indications, the bicycle shed has become the classroom for the children.

Bartica teacher hangs self

A male teacher of the One Mile Bartica Secondary School, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) was discovered by colleagues hanging from the ceiling in his dormitory in an apparent suicide incident on Thursday morning.

Romel Benjamin, 21, of Morawhanna, Region One (Barima-Waini) was employed with the Department of Education at to the Bartica Secondary.

According to reports, his roommates woke up around 05:00h and discovered him hanging from an electrical cable.

The police was immediately summoned and an investigation launched.

Regional Chairman Gordon Gradford told Guyana Times that based on information he received, the young man never exhibited any signs of depression or of wanting to end his life.
