Lindener arrested for allegedly attempting to post cocaine overseas

A 20-year old sales representative at a Call Centre in Linden was Friday arrested after she was caught allegedly attempting to smuggle cocaine in chunks to Canada.

Oneika Neils of 612 Half Mile, Wismar, Linden was charged with being in possession of 1.100 kilogramme of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. She was arrested on Friday at the Guyana Post Office Corporation (GPOC) headquarters, Georgetown.

She pleaded not guilty, but was refused bail. City Magistrate, Judy Latchman remanded her to prison until September 10 when she is expected to appear in court again.

Asked by the magistrate whether she had anything to say, Neils, who was not represented by a lawyer, told the court that she was given the box with a list of its contents but she did not check them. ( you hear lie?)

Customs Anti Narcotics Unit (CANU) Prosecutor, Oswald Massiah told the court that Neils is having a relationship with the man who drove her from Linden to the GPOC with the package that contained the drug.

He said efforts were being made to locate the man.

Massiah explained that during a routine examination of the package, a CANU agent realised that the chunks in transparent plastic packets were unusually heavy.  Further checks revealed that small amounts of cocaine were wrapped in plastic and concealed within each chunk.
