PNC/APNU leader David Granger  announced that his coalition has embarked on a campaign of public protests to force Government into holding Local Government Elections. Commenting on this issue we note Granger’s use of the words ‘peaceful’ and ‘lawful’ to describe the protest actions and we remind our readers that PNC protests in the past have been anything but ‘peaceful’ and ‘lawful’.

In previous instances hundreds of Guyanese, particularly those of Indo ancestry have suffered during those ‘peaceful’ protests. They were either robbed or beaten or both. Mention has to also be made of the millions of dollars in damages to private and public property, particularly by way of arson and looting. These are the hallmarks of previous ‘peaceful’ and ‘lawful’ protests undertaken by the PNC. We therefore urge all Guyanese, particularly those who stand to be affected to be on the lookout. If we are to use the lawlessness currently taking place at City Hall under Hamilton Green’s directorship as a guide then we know what to expect from Granger and the PNC/APNU on a national level.
