Armed bandits heist $18M in two robberies

THE police have reported that within a 12-hour period, bandits carted of a whopping $18M in two armed robberies.
Last Friday, at approximately 08:30 hrs, Rajiv Singh, a clerk at a city store was attempting to take $17.2M secured in a carton box into a commercial bank on Avenue of the Republic in Georgetown when he was held at gunpoint by two armed men and relieved of the cash.
Desmond Edwards, 38, of ‘C’ Field, Sophia, also reportedly sustained a gunshot injury to his right foot during a robbery committed in ‘B’ Field, Sophia at around 21:30 hrs on Thursday last.
Police reports suggest that Edwards and two females were passengers in a motor car that had stopped to put off one of the females when two men armed with handguns approached and committed the robbery, managing to make good their escape with a total of Gy$720,000 and various sums of US and Canadian currencies, besides three cellular phones and items of jewellery.
Edwards allegedly attempted to fight off the men during the robbery, and was shot to his foot before the men escaped in a waiting motor vehicle.
He was admitted at the GPHC for medical attention.
