I SOMETIMES wonder what APNU is really up to. Do the members take Guyanese for granted? Are they saying that we have no ability to think and that therefore we can be fooled? All these thoughts ran through my mind, when I read in the media, that APNU officials are interfacing with young professionals across Guyana. APNU must be confronted, and this is why I am penning this missive.
First, APNU should really read PNC-APNU. Since the Burnham-found party has reached rock bottom, it has been trying desperately to salvage some kind of substance in Guyana’s politics today. A constant ploy is that of name changing-Burnham led PPP (PPP-B) PNC, PNCR, PNC 1G etc. However the names cannot change its many games. Even if and when players change, it is the same manifesto that is being embraced.
PNCR-APNU should be ignored by all Guyanese. Look again what the party is up to.
Its Presidential Candidate, Brigadier (ret) David Granger, WPA (erstwhile) Co-Leader Dr. Rupert Roopnaraine, and a few others, took part in an Interface session with young professionals on Wednesday last. According to reports PNCR-APNU, was able to attract around 50 persons at the session, at the National Library on Wednesday. What is irksome (for some, quite ludicrous) is the fact that the gathering was told that there was a ‘fed up’ feeling regarding the PPP/C administration.
Also (via Dr. Roopnaraine), the gathering was informed about the good history and many benefits of collaboration between political parties. So in this vein, the mission of this PNCR-APNU is one of national reconciliation. So here are my questions, Dear Editor.
If PNCR-APNU’s mission is about unity, should not healing take place? PNC was responsible for the rigging of many elections in Guyana, and is yet to apologise for the atrocities it committed. APNU's Presidential Candidate is former army officer David Granger who served as Forbes Burnham's military attache during the time when the rigging of elections was facilitated by the army.
Granger is yet to dispel certain allegations surrounding his activities during this time As regards Dr. Roopnaraine, he was alongside Dr. Walter Rodney when he was assassinated, during LFS Burnham’s regime. This callous killing broke the WPA, and for good too. Yet he seems comfortable in this alliance with the party which inflicted such pain and suffering to many of the WPA activists whilst in government. So can I take this party seriously? I close with a very poignant observation.
The PPP/C is very focused in the area of youths and education. Money has been invested, personnel trained and time spent. These provide evidence that the PPP/C is very serious about nation-building. So when PNCR-APNU is saying that this will be a major thrust for the party, if it should win, then, I want to know what is being spoken about? To me, the party should seek to enlighten the public on the many rigged elections and Dr. Rodney’s slaying. If this happens, I know people will at least give a partial hearing to the members. Until and unless this happens, PNCR-APNU is doomed.
