PNCR LEADER BATTLE: Greenidge supporters fuss over Granger selection to lecture at parliament event
The Carl Greenidge camp of the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) on Friday expressed concerns over an invitation for Opposition leader and PNCR leader candidate David Granger to address a lecture organised by House Speaker Raphael Trotman.
Granger will deliver a lecture titled ” The Legislative Assembly of British Guiana and the Independence Movement 1946-1966″ set for Friday at the Parliament Buildings.
The Greenidge camp expressed outrage since it is their belief that inviting Granger to do the lecture is a deliberate attempt to give him prominence especially at this time when the PNCR is preparing for its internal elections.
According to one member of the Greenidge Camp, while Granger might be competent, it is unethical for him to be “pushed” ahead of Greenidge, another contender for the PNCR top spot, who is even a more experienced politician.
The issue according to a PNCR source was discussed at what was termed a “fiery” central executive meeting Thursday evening.
This is the second time the two PNCR executives embroiled in a leadership battle.
Last year the two were front-runners in the PNCR Presidential Candidacy race, in which Granger won by a slim majority, following several recounts after Greenidge camp claimed there was fraud in the elections.
