US puts Guyana on Level 2 crime watch list

The US State Department has issued an advisory to American citizens to exercise caution when travelling to Guyana due to an increase in crime.

In the travel advisory which was published on its website, the United States placed Guyana on Level 2 – Exercise Increased Caution – as it cited violent crime, such as armed robbery and murder as being “common.”

According to the US State Department, “Local police lack the resources to respond effectively to serious criminal incidents.”

In this advisory, the US stated:

Be extra vigilant when visiting banks or ATMs.

Be aware of your surroundings.

Avoid walking or driving at night.

Do not physically resist any robbery attempt.

Do not display signs of wealth, such as wearing expensive watches or jewellery.

Enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive Alerts and make it easier to locate you in an emergency.

Follow the Department of State on Facebook and Twitter.

These are only a fraction of the crime reporting . Indian villages has black youths riding with bicycles snatching phones and other valuables from villagers .

after 5:30 pm family members have to wait for their love ones at the public rd to accompany them home ... these family members walk out with cricket bat or cycle bars .

i question what are the villagers doing .. the response ... you can’t touch them since Granger  gives instruction not to attack the criminals and the police ignore the phone and bag snatching as petty crimes .

Indians dare not go riding in blacks village .

the police have a truck going into Indian village catching stray animals for pounding ...  

Indians are at the mercy of the Granger Government ...

Police have arrested an “active” member of the Joint Services, who has since admitted to the brazen robbery of a Kitty resident, who was attacked and robbed on January 11, 2018.

His accomplice was also taken into custody on Saturday night, January 13, 2018. According to a police statement, at about 23:30 hrs Saturday, ranks acted on information received and went to the home of the Joint Services Rank at Middle Road, La Penitence.

It was high drama Saturday morning in downtown Georgetown after a wanted man escaped custody several times, resulting in a chase around the busy capital and the discharging of a firearm.

A police statement explained that a vendor who is wanted for several offences was spotted on King Street, Georgetown around 11:00hrs by a member of the City Constabulary who was armed with a service weapon.

Police said the armed officer promptly apprehended the 34-year-old Tiger Bay resident.

However, the suspect upon being detained, assaulted the officer and escaped but was pursued and recaptured on Robb Street in the vicinity of Colours Boutique.

In another bid to escape detention, the suspect grabbed the rank’s service pistol and tried to disarm him.

Police said a round was discharged without anyone being injured.

With the assistance of public-spirited citizens, the suspect was subdued and handed over to ranks of a police mobile patrol.

Police said the suspect, as well as the arresting rank, had to receive medical attention at the Georgetown Public Hospital; the suspect is being kept for observation under guard.

Looks like last year,the Police cracked the case this year.

That is a strong thief man.  A man like that should be working constructing houses and building roads in Guyana instead of robbing people for money.
