The Police were forced to intervene following a complaint of assault by Regional Chairman of Region Two, Parmanand Persaud made against Alliance for Change councilor Naithram. The incident took place after Naithram's attempt to disrupt the regional administration's work by leading a group of placard bearing protesters into the compound were rebuffed by Persaud. An incensed Naithram who is known for his aggressive and obscene behaviour, often when under the influence of alcohol, then pushed the Chairman's head repeatedly while using obscene language. The Regional Chairman later made a police report and the AFC councilor was subsequently detained. The police are currently investigating the matter with a view to laying charges.
