Seelall Persaud on Monday said lawmen were continuing to target criminals in Sophia and North Ruimveldt where there has been an upsurge in gun-related robberies.

The latest reported victim was 19-year old Romario Weithers who was shot to his abdomen and robbed while going to his ‘C’ Field, Sophia home about 8 O’clock, Sunday
night. The bandit took away a gold ring and cellular phone from Weithers before escaping.

When Weithers arrived at his residence, he told his mother that he was shot and she rushed him to the hospital where he underwent emergency surgery.

No one has been arrested.

Among the steps being taken to suppress criminal activity in Sophia, Persaud said, was the establishment of a road block on Dennis Street. He said there has been an increase in mobile patrols and intelligence-led operations to seize guns and apprehend criminals.

The Deputy Police Commissioner noted that the area is big and a lot of the robberies are opportunistic because perpetrators take advantage of the darkness of the area

take a look at the map of gt. If these fools want to curtail criminals they simply have to park a radio linked car at the entry and exit points with a few cameras to monitor the other major intersections.

They do not have a plan...never had a plan. 4 cars on the east bank in motion alone will be a deterrence since the crooks can be contained. Containment and managing the space is the first rule of deterrence. These people know the security scheme is a sieve so the wreak havoc on the citizens with no worry about being apprehended.
