KARACHI: As Independence Day approaches, Karachi-based political parties have started preparing for its celebration in the metropolis with great zeal. Parties plan to hold special rallies and place stalls to promote the patriotic fervour.

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) spokesperson Latif Mughal told The Express Tribune the party’s plans for the day. “We will hold a rally that will commence from Bilawal House and culminate at Mazar-e-Quaid on August 14,” he said. PPP has already set up its Independence Day stall at Bilawal House, he added.

Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) has decided to mark the occasion by organising a two-day Azadi celebration, on August 13 and 14, at Jinnah Ground. MQM chief Altaf Hussain directed the party workers and supporters to celebrate the national day with enthusiasm. He also requested party supporters to attend the celebrations.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has finalised its plans for the big day. “Rallies will be held by PTI members and supporters on August 14,” said PTI information secretary Dawa Khan Sabri. “The processions will meet at Mazar-e-Quaid where party leaders will deliver their speeches.”

From August 12 to August 14, PTI will set up its special Independence Day stalls where national songs will be played and badges, pictures and stickers related to the country and its heroes will be distributed among the visiting families, he added. Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi held its ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ rally on August 9. At the event, party’s ameer Sirajul Haq addressed the workers and supporters through video link.

Looks like DG has some serious competition now. Cain with his informative foreign report post and now Sparky with this informative post.

Looks like APNU's change hit GNI. DG Bhai might have to retire now because junior members are filling in.
