Moroccan refused bail on illegal entry charge
MOROCCO national Jamal Debrhou, (no address given) who was charged with illegal entry was refused bail on Wednesday by Magistrate Faith McGusty.
He pleaded not guilty to the offence which stated that on January 21st at Lethem, Rupununi, he entered Guyana by a land frontier and failed to present himself to an immigration officer.
The defendant through a French interpreter told the court that he does not have an address in Guyana, but was staying with a friend during the time he spent in this country.
Police Corporal Renetta Bentham, prosecuting, successfully objected to bail, citing that Debrhou may pose a flight risk since he has no legal ties to Guyana.
The case was put off until February 25.
