Powerade/Rainforest Water/Malta Supreme/GABA Tournaments… Eagles and Colts continue unbeaten run on night 7 in the U-23 division

Night 7 of the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association’s, Banks DIH sponsored 1st, 2nd, and U-23 divisions, tournament, resumed on Wednesday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall with two matches in the U-23 division. It was a good day for the favourites as both undefeated Eagles and Colts enjoyed relatively easy wins.

In the first match, Shemar Huntley (17 points) rallied Eagles past Pacesetters. The win allowed the 2015 GABA U-23 champs, Eagles, to remain unbeaten in their two U-23 games. In all, the club has played four games overall in the tournament and are unbeaten.

In Wednesday’s match, Huntley (17 points) stepped up to the challenge after the team’s captain and star player, Travis Belgrave (4 points), played with a minor ankle injury and wasn’t at full throttle.
“All I needed was to get warm and then my game started to flow,” – related Shemar Huntley, post-game. The youngster resonated the urge to reclaim the team’s U-23 title which they lost last year to colts. “Both the U-23 and 2nd division title are important to us and we need to win silverware this season to prove that Eagles are the best”- added Huntley.
Kwesi Thompson (13 points) made valuable contributions to the Eagles win. Out of his 13 points, he netted two three-pointers. Nikosi Allicok (12 points) played well for Eagles with some neatly finished layups from fast breaks.
Top performers for losers Pacesetters included Tofawa Daly with 15 points inclusive of two (2) three-pointers, along with Jude Stephney 13 points and Quincy Dos Santos 12.
Game 2: Colts breezed past Plaisance Guardians from Jump ball with an easy 13-point, 66-53 win to go unbeaten in their three Under-23 games played. Colts led the game from the first quarter and never looked back. The scores throughout the quarters were as follows. 1st quarter, 11-6, 2nd quarter 37-21, 3rd quarter 49-39 until the full time 66-53.
Colts top performers were Timothy Thompson 13 points, Daniel Ramlagan 13 points and Jonathan Pooran 10 points. Plaisance Guardians Jared Sears scored a game high 17 points with three 3-pointers but didn’t have enough support as his team lost by over 10 points.
