Told you that the PPP is up to dirty tricks.  Given their reputation for violence some might well be intimidated into voting for their, given that they so easily breach privacy.

On the other hand this might trigger a backlash against them for the same reason, getting people to think that they need to go as they have gone way too far.

Does the opposition parties have the same access to the list of phone numbers that is available to the PPP?

Doesn't matter.  I don't think that Guyanese are as accustomed to receiving these kinds of solicitation calls as we are, so the PPP is free to continue doing so, leaving people quite angry with them. 

Most will respond to the question about whether they intend to vote for the PPP with a response which will suggest that it isn't Jagdeo's business as to who they plan to vote for.

The information referred to can be accessed by any one anywhere on line. There is nothing wrong about this. Obama and the Democrats are a master at this. They did this in 2008 and 2012.

Organisations interested in the issues can access the information.

that would be sound advice were we living in a society not known for its corrupt practices. The PPP are threatened. They will do what ever it takes for them to win. If the lose, some are going to jail. All are going to lose income streams and many will lose assets. They will do what the must do to not have to avoid being skewered.

Why are they novices?  Its the PPP who are terrifying people with unsolicited calls.  Who wants a call from Freedom House knowing that savages like Kwame and the House of Israel goons lurk in there?

While indeed private numbers are not accessible, organisations have their phone lists in numerical order and for the specific target areas. In that way calls can be made to private-unlisted numbers.

Guyana is not the USA and the reaction of the woman indicates that.  We get unsolicited calls all the time, unless we are on a "do not call" list, who only have cell phones (and even these are now being used for unsolicited calling).

Most Guyanese will react quite differently.  It will be like you getting a call from the FBI....not good!

And where political intimidation and violence isn't unknown.  A Guyanese getting a call from Freedom House will be like an American getting a call from the Homeland Security or the FBI.

Regardless of a no call list, companies do make their calls as noted in my last post.

However, a person whether s/he has an unlisted or a listed number, can make the request that the caller cease making call to the number and can further request that the company delete and cease making calls.

This isn't Courts calling with a furniture sale.  This is a de facto government agency, and no one any where wants to get an unsolicited call from a government agency.

I am also willing to bet that there are no laws against making unsolicited calls to people who do not want to receive them.

And you really think that the PPP will share this list with the opposition. Yeah right!

They are hiding the Census data which was paid for by the public and which is vital to every sorts of social service delivery systems, from the public themselves. These people are truly nasty, scoundrels.

The PPP being the government has readily available access to those numbers that the opposition does not have. Let's not try to pretend that all parties are on an equal footing. Guyana isn't North America. It's a lawless land under the PPP.

Each political organisation is responsible to acces and mainmtain their information ... simple matter.

In principle, nothing is wrong with a political party soliciting votes by phone. I get calls every election season in Canada. I listen to the caller and then say "Thank you for calling. I'll think about it."

If it's my NDP people calling I say "I'm with you all the way. Let's win this one!"

I think Guyanese are smart enough to tell Freedom House what they want to hear and then vote as they please in the ballot booth. Everyone's vote is supposed to be secret.

This is one of those ideas some idiot from North America suggested to the PPP and the PPP embraced it.

Guyanese people are not used to telephone/email solicitations from anyone especially politicians. They have a more rigorous expectation of privacy than Westerners when it comes to email/telephone because the mass availability is still relatively new.

Add to this that Guyanese people tend to fear their all powerful Central Government. The mere call from the ruling party can serve as an act of intimidation. I can see how an uncommitted or Coalition friendly Indian would think twice after getting a personal call from Freedom House. The average Guyanese Indian or average Guyanese anyone can easily be intimidated by Government because the Government is indeed intimidating and in Guyana you can be penalized for voting the "wrong" way.

That being said. This can help the PPP in two ways depending on the script used by the Freedom House phone bank. If they were sweet talking then it can indeed help. If they were rough or threatening then that could help too (among Indians anyway).

It can backfire only if the people do not fear the Government. I don't think this is really possible. Guyanese people fear the Government. And more specifically Guyanese Indians largely fear the PPP Government in a way we never feared a PNC Government. The PPP is highly personal in how they victimize opponents and perceived opponents particularly Indians. Them always brave fuh coolieman but frikkin de Blackman as it were.

I get phones calls from the Conservative Party all of the time. I am a Conservative and never gave them my personal information but the phone call happens all the time.

No biggie for me.

Guyana is a Third World country where people FEAR the Government. No Canadian fears his Government. Canadian political parties are beggars/supplicants to voters. Guyanese political parties (both of them) are feudal Lords to peasant voters.
