The People’s Progressive Party/Civic’s National COVID-19 Multi-stakeholder Response Forum is calling on persons to start wearing face masks to help slow the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and it is also questioning why more testing is  not being done for the virus.

“We believe that if all of us in Guyana wear a mask, it will minimize/stop the virus from spreading. If the virus cannot spread freely, it cannot infect as many people and we should be able to decrease its potency and save many more lives. There will be less particles with the virus in the air and less contaminated surfaces. While we recognize that wearing regular (not medical) home-made masks do not guarantee that someone will be free from catching the COVID-19 infection, it does increase the likelihood of preventing spread to the entire population,” a press released by the Forum, which was launched by Presidential candidate Dr. Irfaan Ali last Saturday, stated.

A good precaution no doubt but it is the general belief that everyone may contract this virus at some point mask or no mask. Its very contagious and moves like grease lightening. Think about it, a month or so ago, did u believe u would have been staring down the barrel of a pandemic. however your point is well taken.

Some useful information:

This is what John Hopkins is saying. The Chinese now understand the behavior of the COVID 19 virus. Through autopsies they have learned that the virus is characterized by thick mucus obstructing respiratory pathways that solidifies and blocks airways and lungs. In order to apply medicine and for treatment to work, you need to open the airways. That can take several days, hence why those with underlying respiratory medical conditions and elders are at high risk of complications.
Recommendations to safeguard yourself are:
1. Drink lots of hot liquids; coffee, tea, soups & warm water.
2. Take a sip of warm water every 20 minutes. This keeps your mouth moist and washes any of the virus that has entered your mouth and pushes it into your stomach where the gastric juices will neutralize it before it can get to the lungs.
3. Gargle with an antiseptic in warm water such as salt, vinegar, or lemon juice every day if possible.
4. The virus attaches itself to hair and clothes. Any detergent or soap kills it. Take a shower immediately when coming from outside and shampoo your hair.
5. Wash metallic surfaces. The virus can remain viable on this surface for up to 9 days. When not in your home, wear gloves if possible, to avoid touching handrails, doorknobs etc. if you cannot wear gloves or do not have any, wash your hands immediately and then shower.
6. Regardless if you have gone outside, wash your hands every 20 minutes with soap that foams and do it for 20 seconds.
7. Eat fruits and vegetables. Try to elevate your zinc levels.
8. Animals do NOT spread the virus to people. It is person to person transmission.
9. Try to avoid eating and drinking too many cold things.
10. If you feel a sore throat coming on, gargle with antiseptic immediately. Do it every hour. The virus enters through the throat where it remains for 3-4 days before it passes to the lungs.
Please read and pass this information on

I can remove comments and threads, among other functions.

Note ...

1. I did not remove the thread mentioned by Dave.

2. I manage the forum in a manner where members do have leeway in their interactions.

3, Thus far, I have expressed on a few occasions for members to tone down on the "choice words" being used and improve on the dialogues.

Thanks Ace, I will copy  the useful virus information you posted and forward it on my network. It looks like preparation before a pending virus attack,  is the key to survival.  Much appreciated and stay safe.

Please provide the link to John Hopkins when posting such info. While this may all be legitimate (and it does look so from the surface), it may be totally bogus and could be giving us incorrect info during a critical time.
