PPP/C says regional lists rejected by GECOM

By , June 26, 2015, Source

The PPP/C today said that its lists of candidates for regional democratic council elections scheduled for Tuesday was rejected by GECOM this afternoon.

GECOM has not issued a statement on this matter. It is unclear if the PPP/C’s lists didn’t comply with statutory requirements. Without their lists accepted, if the elections were held on Tuesday, the governing coalition would have its candidate elected as chairman.

The PPP/C statement follows:

At 3:00PM today (Friday, June 26, 2015), the People’s Progressive Party Civic presented its ten (10) lists of Regional Candidates to become Councillors in the ten (10) Administrative Regions, subsequent to the May 11, 2015 General and Regional Elections.

These 176 Councillors will replace the PPP/C in the ten Administrative Regions.

The lists were submitted to the Guyana Elections Commission and was rejected by the authorities there.
