PPP/C “will not sleep” until it wins next election – Opposition Leader

– Party mounts massive outreach exercises in Regions 5, 6

The People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) has vowed not to sleep nor slumber until it wins the next

Former President Jagdeo

Former President Bharrat Jagdeo

Regional and General Elections slated for 2020 but will work extensively to consolidate its ranks and expose the double standards and mounting acts of discrimination by the current A Partnership for National Unity and Alliance for Change (APNU/AFC) Government. This is the position of former President and current Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo who joined a high-level team of PPP/C leaders who on Monday fanned out on a three-day long extensive outreach exercise in Regions Five and Six. Over 47 planned meetings will be held to discuss a myriad of political and party matters, along with governance issues. Those meetings will specifically focus on the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), how the Opposition will be approaching Government on major issues in Guyana and Local Government Elections (LGE). Jagdeo started off his tour with meetings at Canfield and Adelphi in East Canje, Berbice, and then closed the first day with a meeting with residents of Chesney village, Corentyne. Jagdeo, addressing several traditional ‘bottom house’ community meetings, explained that the Party would also be using its “stint” in Opposition to plan and execute a comprehensive strategy for regaining executive power following its recent loss at the recently held May 11 Regional and General Elections. The Opposition Leader emphasised that the PPP and its leaders has had to console hundreds of party members who became worried following the election results, as well as many who wanted to give up hope, given their experiences in the past. Jagdeo remarked that the period for weeping is over and it was time to put “backs to wheels” and join the Party in the struggle to regain power. “We are going to use this period to consolidate and assess what went wrong and figure out what needs to be changed so as to strengthen the party to reconnect with grass root supporters”, he vowed.

Residents rally around Jagdeo As the meetings commenced, there was excitement and heightened expectations in Region Six as Jagdeo and others addressed packed bottom houses and meeting centres as residents rallied around them. Some residents said that since the new Government came to power, they felt discriminated against given the statements made by Ministers, regional party executives and supporters of the APNU/AFC fold. Others expressed feelings of insecurity as they are being judged on race or party affiliation as Government embarks on a programme to cleanse the Public Service of people it does not believe supports it. Many have also expressed concern over Government’s approach towards issues of benefit to the citizens. Pensioners have expressed concern that after three months in office, the new Administration has removed their electricity and water subsidies and is only offering them a $3000 increase in pension despite promising to double it as soon as the party entered office if they were to win the election. Residents said that the uniform allowance for school children has been increased by $500 but Government has taken away the $10,000 allowance which was issued last year for transportation. Jagdeo addressing that issue specifically said that the previous Administration took a decision to give parents $10,000 per child in the first year. “Each year we will add $10,000 so in year five you will end up with $50,000 per child attending school in a household. So every child would get $50,000 per year, they did not increase it but instead they took it away.” One of the major concerns was the slowing pace of the economy which has almost ground  at a standstill. Jagdeo explained that the current state of the economy is because of the $19 billion which was cut from the National Budget between 2012 and 2014. “That is money that could have entered into circulation and created tons of jobs that would have had a multiplying effect on economic activates; they do not understand the concept of flow of money.” He said that a call centre which was built by the PPP/C Administration and established in Linden – which is a stronghold of the current Administration – was recently closed, laying off 90 persons. “Now the bauxite industry has started laying off, and if we are not careful in the Berbice River; because they have threatened the bauxite people… the companies could pull out and 750 families will be on the breadline.” Jagdeo said the PPP/C is willing to sit down with Government and discuss ways to deal with Venezuela’s threat of claiming a part of the Essequibo. “I made it clear on border issues where our sovereignty is threatened… that the Government will have our full support. We are patriots; we don’t want to see this country divided. We will fight against any attempt to destroy our territorial wholeness. We pursue this fight vigorously.” Addressing the issue of Local Government Elections, the former Head of State said the PPP/C is prepared for it and since the PPP/C won seven of the 10n regions at the May 11 Elections, is will be looking to winning 60 of the 71 constituencies. “We can sweep Berbice, we can do it, it is an important step in our fight to take the Government in three or five year’s time.” He furthers explained that it will be three years if they win the elections petition and five years if they lose and elections are constitutionally due. As it relates to GECOM, the Opposition Leader said the party will continue to push to have its Chairman resign.

Where were these PPP politicians when the PPP was in office? They were spending time abroad having a good time. Now suddenly they want to talk to the voters.

That's not your business, fool.

Pay attention to the hard times the Black Government have in store for Guyanese.  The country is moving towards bankruptsy.  There are no plans to create jobs.  There are no plans to recruit soldiers to defend the border again aggression.

PPP is back on track.

The election humbled them which was long overdue.

With KoKoBeah PNC destroying everything in less than 100 days and with no plan in place, this will be an interesting Local Election.

President Granger must pressure AFC to run independently and prove that they are of any value to the PNC.

Exciting times ahead.

The PPP would not win elections with a racist leader. Thousands will still vote PPP even if their leader is racist. However, more PPP supporters would rather stay home. Guyanese are increasingly rejecting racist leaders and racist leadership as in the last 2 elections.

What has the indian government done except prime their pockets? Guyana has a poverty rate at 40 percent with amerindians in the high 70s. How many jobs have they created when we are in 25 to 35 percent of real unemployment?

I do not know what sort of imagery you intent in insisting the PNC arw a leprous government. Maybe that is the racism in your head coming to fore because you cannot imagine being under a black government.

Well, the PPP are not getting back in office soon. Out performing them takes little. The fact the stealing is stooped mean one half of the nations revenues can be retained.

How long can APNU bribe the AFC to keep them happy?  How long can the AFC bribe the PNC with the Berbice votes?  The Berbice votes won't be there when 2020 comes. APNU comrades, beware, your days are numbered. Be humble and work to make a Guyana better if place if you really want to survive 2020.

Why do you think it is bribery and not love for country? The PPP is not good for Guyana in its present form. Berbice votes on ethnic lines cannot take the PPP over the top.  Amerindians will  get the respect they deserve for the first time and will no longer be made the footstool of any party. They are not voting PPP ever again. The PPP has to do more than being the race based party it is. It did great damage to itself letting Ravi Dev frame their campaign in terms of ethnicity over nationalism. It has not sought to repair that damage but is pursuing the same strategy all over and believes that it can retake the state on it. That is like Trump believing he can be president on buffoonery and right wing trolling.

The AFC delivered few Berbice votes, and by 2020 there will be even fewer Berbice votes for the PPP to win.

The problem with the Indo KKK is that they think that its Berbice which wins elections.  No it is regions 3 and 4 where almost 60% of the population live.  APNU has been making increasing inroads in Region 3, as the PPP tried to dilute its power in Region 4 by dispersing blacks over to the West Bank through house lot allocations.  The PPP has FAILED to make inroads into the African/mixed bloc.

The PPP cannot win elections based only on the Indian vote.  It did this in May and it LOST.

It also crafts itself as a Berbice party, as that is the densest area of Indian votes, even though ironically there are MORE Indian votes in Region 4.

I suspect that the vast majority of APNU/AFC Indian votes came from right within G/town.

According to Allicock, it was not the government that dismissed the CSOs but rather, it was the PPPC which had “shut down this programme without letting them (the CSOs) know.
He said that the former administration had made no financial allocation for CSOs beyond April 2015, effectively shutting down the programme."

That's easy..most will vote for the Coalition because by 2020 they will get solar light, better education, better transp access..etc. Also the PPP will not have the Govt resources they had depended heavily on to campaign for the last 20 years..

They were pawns of the PPP serving a suzerain lord as serfs so they will realize the lost of pittance is not worth selling ones soul and ones people.

It is amazing how you cretinous ethnic fundamentalist can seek to conserve some fiction of ethnic identity and yet believe you can trample on the culture of others.

Making amerinds bead traders and eternal beggars and supplicants at your knees will not make them love you. They know you are bane of their existence and the agency of their current destitution. They further know that you are the destroyers of their culture and sense of self.

It is a great day that the PPP lost. They had nothing in store for us but continued serfdom with them as over lords.

What about the Demerara Party, it is the densest area of afro votes going to the PNC. GT indians never give much thought to rural indians. Dem ppl in GT are euro-centric. Unfortunately, when the Blacks beating dem up for just being Indian looking, dem Black euro-centric brothers doan think about their unique behaviors and actions similar to the Black bruddahs.

Since when you cared about Amerindians? It was your PPP/C that fired them and failed to let them know.

We had a completely coolie friends and family PPP, where were your complaints then? This admin is the first truly coalition regime on the scene. It is less racially insidious than the PPP who has not learn any lessons to date. You seem to be sense blind to your own reasoning.

First, indians vote as a group no less than Blacks across rural and urban areas.

Secondly, we are all a thoroughly western people and there is nothing wrong with that if it happens to have been a consolidated of cultural investment of the planet achieved by Europeans and now received wisdom of the world.

More ranting from a man now haunted by Nigerian jujus.

60% of the votes are in Demerara (East and West), so when the PPP, and Indo racists like you think that the solution lies in Berbice, you will LOSE.

And yes the largest Indo AFC votes most likely came from G/town, so clearly a campaign based on racial panic was less interesting to them than it was to rural Indians, who have LESS contact with blacks.

So provide to me the names of the blacks who headed state owned corporations, commissions, or committees, who were appointed by the PPP, and retained by APNU/AFC.

The list must be long, because you will swear that the PPP wasn't anti black.

The PPP was asked to prove that they weren't racist by Nigel Hughes, and Freddie K. We are STILL waiting for the answers.

How can they be racists when they did more for blacks than they did for Indians.   Blacks voted 98% for the PNC and Black party.   If you want to know who is a racist, look in the mirror.

Sorry to disappoint you.  The PPP ran a horrendous campaign, based on divisiveness.  They SOLE aim was to demonize blacks in order to terrify the Indian and Amerindian votes in their direction.  But they also terrified the African and mixed vote, all those who had stopped voting, because they thought that it was a waste of time.

The PPP gained 30k more Indian votes, and 6k more votes in predominantly Amerindian areas.

They still LOST.

Until the PPP stops being a "coolie party" which only goal is to demonize blacks, they will LOSE.

Given how diverse Guyana is, NO party can run on a platform of race panic and win.  By 2020 the environment will be even more difficult for the PPP, as the Indian vote continues to vanish.

They did NOT do anything for blacks, and so were resoundly REJECTED by them.

Cease your racism and respect the fact that blacks know more about their lives than you do.

They might have built something in a black village.  Contract given to Indians, who hired other Indians, and the blacks remained unemployed.  So how is that helping?

The PPP is implacably corrupt. That is its only problem. Indians voting for it is no problem if they were honest. Systems as ours predominate around the world but change over can occur because the population demographics  is more distributed among a wide array of competing groups or basically homogeneous. The PPP has not been forced to be accountable so they developed a culture of complete and total despotism. They stole without restraint and acted as petty villains in every aspect of their rule.
