ISLAMABAD: PPP leader Makhdoom Amin Fahim on Thursday condemned the laying off of dozens of lower-grade employees in the Prime Minister’s Office and demanded that the government immediately reinstate them.

It has been reported in the media that the Nawaz government has dismissed the services of dozens of grade 7 to 13 employees in the name of austerity measures.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Fahim said that it was a “regular feature of Nawaz Sharif’s style of governance and whenever he comes to power, the sword of unemployment starts hanging over lower-grade employees”.

He said that at a time when the price hike was at its peak, sacking such employees was a “brutal act”. He said that Nawaz Sharif had also laid off “thousands of employees” from several government departments between 1997 and 1999 - his second tenure in the government – and the PPP government had reinstated those employees.

The PPP leader demanded that the government immediately withdraw its decision and reinstate the dismissed employees.
