Bandits have shot and robbed an Enmore businessman of some GUY$8M after forcing the vehicle he was travelling in to stop at Lusignan, East Coast Demerara.
Guyana Police Force spokesman Ivelaw Whittaker in a statement Monday said Puroshotam Nauth, 49, of Foulis, Enmore, was attacked around 7.45 AM by two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun on the Railway Embankment at Lusignan.

"Investigations revealed that Purushotam Nauth was in a mini-bus along with the driver Somal Persaud, 40 years, of Non Pariel, ECD when two motor-vehicles sandwiched the mini-bus, forcing the driver to stop.

A man exited from the front vehicle and another armed with a firearm from the rear vehicle and they held up the two occupants of the mini-bus," Whittake said.
He added that the perpetrators then took away a bag containing $8M from Nauth who was shot to his right shoulder in the process, after which they escaped in their vehicles.

Nauth was admitted to the GPHC where he is said to be in stable condition. Demerara Waves Online News (www.demwaves.com) understands that he was shot in the back and the bullet has lodged in his jaw.

At least eight armed robbers went on a rampage, robbing several persons in Pirara, a gold mining district in Cuyuni, of millions of dollars in cash and raw gold, police sources told Demerara Waves Online News.

At least one suspect has been arrested.

demwaves.com was told that several persons were beaten and robbed but it was not immediately clear if the victims were at mining camps or in shops.

Those injured include Guyanese and Brazilians.

And on the coastland at Farm Squatting Area, East Bank Demerara, police were trying to locate a fisherman, Rasheed Bridgemohan called β€œConvict” who was kidnapped.

The 36-year old man of the North West District is being guaranteed a safe release in exchange for a ransom of GUY$1 million.

Investigations have learnt that at about 2130h. on Friday September 30, 2011, Bridgemohan had left his aunt’s home at Farm Squatting Area, EBD, to go and a have a tattoo placed on his arm and had not been seen since.

At about 2:30 PM on Monday, the aunt received a call on her house phone from a male caller who demanded the sum of $1M for the safe return of Rasheed Bridgemohan.

Three more such calls were later received by the aunt. Investigations are in progress.
