Come on Chief, what nonsense are you posting ?

Let us not politicize the events of Baltimore. Let us focus on the unlawful death of Freddie Gray.

The violence is uncalled for and the hooligans are driving businesses and development from the area.

It is an all round tragedy.

I actually agree with you.  The people who will suffer most will be those who live in these neighborhoods.  Businesses will suffer and so will fire employees.  Many small community based industries will have to shut down.  Insurance premiums will increase, and ironically policing will be more intense.

But then those involved are young hot heads who don't care.

Carib,

If we can step aside from Guyana's politics and have a discussion on this matter.

We have too many African Americans being murdered by cops in America. This must be addressed.

As for the violence, it comes with anger and built up frustration and yes, it drives away businesses which are just starting to reinvest. It is a real tragedy.

On a positive note, Church and Community Leaders are stepping up and condemning the violence which brings more harm than good to some of the depressed communities.

Police treatment of African Americans and other Minorities are a matter of great concern.

On my most recent visit to New York City, I felt as if I was in a Police State. They were everywhere. GNI New Yorkers can chime in and correct me if I am wrong.

NYC is far more dangerous than Toronto, if that is where you are, so you cannot compare the two.

The issue is POLICING, not the police.  Should police be organized to act as an occupying force criminalizing the entire community?  Or should they protect and serve the majority in the community against the minority who are predators.  This is the question.

Just tonight there were FIVE shootings in NYC, a Monday night when it tends to be more quiet.  The current approach is to criminalize the ENTIRE community, including hard working home owners.

The RIGHT approach should be for the police, community leaders and others to identify and punish the guilty, identify at risk kids and figure out a solution, and to stop thinking that every black male is a criminal.

BTW this is also applicable to Guyana.

Ha Ha !

We called a truce just for that post. We will be back on track at other posts.

Yuji if you applied the same empathy to Guyana you would definitely give APNU AFC a shot.

Here is the deal. If APNU morphs into  Burnhamist demon then the AFC walks.  Nagamootoo and others will have no future if they cowtow to an African dictatorship.

The fact that Granger willingly gave up more cabinet slots and MPs than he should, if one considers that 80% of the votes will be brought in by APNU, shows that he represents a change from the past.  Do you think that Burnham would have cut a deal like that.  In addition we haven't heard a peep from ANY faction within the often fractious PNC, so apparently they too understand that a one race dictatorship is unsustainable.

FACT.  No government which is in power for over 20 years is healthy.  New fresh blood and ideas are needed.  Even NYC, a very democratic city and state selected two Republican mayors, and one governor.
