Many countries including the US subsidize its agricultural sector for good reason.  The idea that you shut it down because it’s not profitable is something only an idiot will say.

The coming oil industry is known to go throug boom-bust cycles and a vibrant agricultural sector would have helped to stabilize the economy during the bust cycles.

I am afraid that we are witnessing another Venezuela in the making due to poor leadership in the country.
