PPP never compromises on principles: Gilani

LAHORE, Feb 3 (APP): Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani Friday said Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) had never compromised on principles and faced every trial boldly.“Dictators come and go but vision and philosophy of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto lives forever,” said the Prime Minister while addressing a stone-laying ceremony of Kala Shah Kaku Toll Plaza at Shahdrah near here.The prime minister said PPP rendered sacrifices for the cause of democracy and always worked for strengthening of national institutions.

Gilani said the PPP had been promoting the policy of reconciliation as per the vision of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto and restored the 1973 constitution to its true spirit.

He said Pakistan remained stable after fall of East Pakistan only due the 1973 constitution.

Gilani said the PPP did not come to power through back-door politics but it was the power of masses that helped the PPP to come into power. He said people were the source of power for PPP, therefore, it always respects the power of the masses.

Highlighting government’s achievements during the past four years in power, the Prime Minister said the PPP-led government restored the 1973 constitution, approved National Finance Commission (NFC) Award, passed 18th amendment from the parliament, made the passage of Women Bill in the National Assembly, introduced FATA reforms and gave voice to the people of Gilgat Baltistan (GB). Earlier addressing the function to inaugurate the train service, the Prime Minister said the launch of the Pak Business Train is a significant step forward and a successful example of public-private partnership to offer modern facilities to railway passengers.

He said the project is reflective of potential of the private sector and it will encourage investors to such projects.

The Prime Minister appreciated the role of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry for investment of Rs. 225 million in this project.

He urged business community to promote corporate culture for a progressive economy of the country. He emphasized the need to initiate more public-private partnerships projects in manufacturing and operational fields.

Gilani said investors should participate in boosting the railways by importing locomotives and freight coaches.

Prime Minister said he could not promise an overnight change in Pakistan Railways but added there had been several substantial improvements with the cooperation of the private sector.

He said the government departments could be improved by utilising available resources with the help of the private sector.

“The role of employees cannot be ignored in improvement and I urge all employees to participate in development as they have the potential to do it,” he said.

The Prime Minister said that the democratic government would provide complete support for initiating more projects under public-private Partnership.

Later, the Prime Minister visited different coaches of the train and raised greed flag to signal the start of the first business train to Karachi.

The Punjab Governor Sardar Latif Khosa, Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Syed Mehdi Shah, Railway Minister Ghulam Ahmad Bilour, National Heritage Minister Samina Khalid Ghurki, Information Secretary PPP Qamar Zaman Kaira, Chairman Railways Arif Azeem, PPP Punjab President Imtiaz Safdar Warraich, General Manager Railways Saeed Akhtar and LCCI President Ch Zafar Iqbal were also present on this occasion.
