The Caring and Compassionate PP IS THE CHOICE OF THe GUYANESE PEOPLE.

These kids need to be taught practical technical skills so that they can get jobs when they become adults. If not this venture would be a waste of money.

But I like the fact that they will learn about values and building confidence.  I would like them to read and listen to Rodney's children stories because it will help them to have high self-esteem.

This is a critical step in the path forward, regardless what the detractors say.

The PPP should be using Children's Day as an occasion to celebrate all of Guyana's children. Instead they invite PPP children and dress them up in their Commie red to indoctrinate them into the fold. No interest in national unity whatsoever.

That is part of national unity.  Remember all dem school marches back in the PNC hay-day, all in the name of patriotism.

In other words the current PPP operate in the same manner as the former PNC dictatorship. Thanks for the confirmation.

Unity with the PPP and PNC is the best medicine for Guyana.  It would even solve the political "cockroach" plague.

PNC will want to throw the PPP out and seize power like they did with the UF. It'll be rigging and frigging all over.

No, that's why it will be step by step and carefully calculated with constitutional/legal guarantees to ensure this cannot happen.  In anycase, the PPP will hold major sway.  The UF was a whole different scenario, they were a minority party helping get the PNC over the top.  Nothing of this sort should be contemplated.

The status quo is not sustainable.

Have to plant a mole in the PNC to know what shenanigans they are contemplating. There will be a problem with trust on both sides. 

Even with friends, you never let your guard down.  The Israelis spy on the US to figure their motives.  Spying, etc will be a norm.  I don't trust the PNC and I'm sure many Afro will not trust the motives of the PPP.  Both sides must ensure there are enough safeguards to raise an early alert should anyone "get smart".  The courts of Guyana should serve as the guardian and guarantor of the democracy.

I don't think it's impossible if both sides know the other could be voted out.  Many Blacks had grown to dislike the PNC but were afraid of perpetual PPP power.

THE Progressive Organisation of Pioneers (POP), the ruling Party’s children branch, was re-launched yesterday at three locations in Guyana’s three Counties, namely Demerara, Essequibo and Berbice, with the induction of over 450 children to mark Children’s Day.

 

First launched on June 1, 1979, more than 50 children back then received the red pioneer scarf, the only uniform item, from former President, the late Mrs. Janet Jagan, but by the 1980s, the organisation’s vibrancy had waned.

The PPP’s Women’s Progressive Organisation (WPO) spearheaded yesterday’s investiture ceremony.

Demerara’s activity was held at the Umana Yana, on upper High Street, Kingston, and was addressed by PPP General Secretary, Mr. Clement Rohee, who encouraged the young children, the eldest being 14-years-old, to view their participation in POP with a sense of pride.

Noting that the opportunities for engagement with other children, as well as advancement to realise their full potential are many, Mr. Rohee said, “You are lucky and fortunate.”

Also speaking to the almost 100 children was Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Dr. Frank Anthony, who told the youngsters that he was once a POP member, which organisation is part of an international movement.

“The Pioneers are part of a broader movement,” he said, adding that he was part the first delegation that was sent to Cuba to represent Guyana at a camp for Pioneers from different countries.

Yesterday’s inductees were also taught the Pioneer’s song.

POP was the brainchild of PPP stalwart, Mr. Navin Chanderpal, who was recognised at yesterday’s event, and focuses on teaching children life skills and values, building confidence and providing educational support, in terms of after school tutorials and scholarship opportunities for tertiary education, as well as focuses on building a sense of nationalism.

This is a master stroke.  women voters in mind.  Mothers.

I knew a few pioneers from that period. I donated a pint of my blood to one of them when her father asked me.

Almost all those pioneers were children of PPP-WPO-PYO activists. Parental authority and power decided for the kids to join, but as they grew older many lost interest.

Not only that, some parents/party comrades were peeved that their kids were not given the chance to attend pioneer camps in Cuba and Russia.

A few lucky ones went, including the girl who got my blood. Her dad was my good friend and comrade Fazel Khan.
