The PPP has said that it will field candidates in all constituencies in upcoming local body polls in Punjab under the leadership of Bilawal Bhutto and Asif Ali Zardari.

“The Lahore arrival programme of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto will be decided in the central executive council meeting on June 17,” Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo, central Punjab president, said here on Sunday.

Flanked by Faisal Mir, Mr Wattoo said during his stay in Lahore Mr Bilawal would hold a series of meetings with the workers and office-bearers of eight divisions of Punjab with a view to seeking their recommendations to revive the party in the province.

He said the PPP was a party of workers, farmers, the downtrodden, minorities and women and would continue the politics dedicated to their empowerment.

“It will continue the struggle till the realisation of their rights as per the vision of the founding father of PPP,” he said.

Wattoo said the PML-N was taking away jobs from those hired during the PPP government.

“The PPP government had restored hundreds of sacked employees and regularised the services of contract employees,” he said.

PROTEST: Rresidents living near the railways lines in Gowala Colony and Chand Rai under the patronage of PPP held a demonstration outside the Governor House here on Sunday to protest against contaminated water.

They said no clean drinking water was available in their residential areas as the authorities concerned were not paying any attention despite filing complaints.

APPOINTED: Shaukat Mahmood Basra has been appointed as General Secretary of PPPP (south Punjab) with immediate effect.

A notification to the effect was issued here on Sunday by Rukhsana Bangash, political secretary to Asif Ali Zardari.

It said Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians President Makhdoom Amin Faheem made the appointment.
