United Development Party (PPP) lawmaker Dimyati Natakusumah has called on Vice President Jusuf Kalla to mediate the ongoing conflict between the party’s warring factions lead by Djan Faridz and Romahurmuziy.
The politician said he was inspired by Kalla’s successful role to resolve internal conflicts within the Golkar Party.
Dimyati, the secretary general of Djan Faridz’s camp, said the conflict within the PPP should be properly resolved by influential Muslim figures in Indonesia and through measures that were in line with the party’s Islamic ideology.
“The PPP is an Islamic party, therefore, it needs Islamic figures to resolve its problems. Kalla, as the chairman of the Indonesian Mosques Association, is among the figures who can help us,” he told reporters at the House of Representatives compound on Tuesday.
However, Dimyati further said, the real problem was the conflict between Djan and Law and Human Rights Minister Yasonna H. Laoly.
He said the minister had stirred up the PPP’s internal conflicts by issuing a ministerial decree, which unilaterally proclaimed the legitimacy of Romahurmuziy as party chairman.
Dimyati said Laoly had not only violated the Political Parties Law but had also trespassed on the authority of the State Administrative High Court (PTTUN).
“The important thing is to first resolve the problem involving Laoly. Reconciling with Romy’s camp is easier and can be done afterward,” Dimyati said.
