CAMPAIGN spokesman, Minister Robert Persaud, at a press conference yesterday, said the plans outlined in the People’s Progressive Party/ Civic (PPP/C) manifesto may have been the catalyst that informed the decision of former critics of the party to announce their endorsements.
“They are not opportunists. It would be an insult to characterise genuine Guyanese who want to be associated with the development and the programmes and the platform of the PPP/C, as opportunistic,” he said.
Persaud explained that people have the right to change their views over time, and in that time, can become more informed and aware.
“The manifesto has given people surety and certainty as to what will be the focus of a Donald Ramotar presidency,” he said, “This itself would have been the springboard, or catalyst, to see that rally around of persons who would have held different views of the PPP/C.”
The ruling party, in its manifesto, committed to ensuring that all Guyanese, regardless of race, religion or gender, continue to benefit from the programmes proposed for implementation. These programmes are touted as being ambitious, realistic and realizable, with a direct focus on sustaining the economic, social and political progress made in the last two decades.
The manifesto expressly advances the reinforcement of the solid ties of solidarity among all Guyanese people.
Persaud maintained that the party is different from others, because of the fact that it does not condemn or judge people for their choices.
“We may criticise and may offer different positions…we do not exclude… we include,” he said.
“Freedom House is large enough for everyone who wants to play a constructive role in the development of the country,” Persaud posited.
According to him, the PPP/C has a historical mandate, which is to unite the Guyanese people.
“This is our self-imposed historical mandate and we will never falter or budge or renege on this mandate…we owe it to the past and we certainly owe it to our future generations,” he said.
The campaign spokesman stressed that all that can be done to unite the Guyanese people will be done.
“All that we can do to unite and bring inclusivity and full participation of our people, we will do. That is our mandate. That is the PPP/C mandate,” Persaud said.
On that note, he added that the people who have joined the PPP/C have come on board with a willingness to serve the Guyanese people.
“All the people that have come on board with the PPP/C have been unsolicited; they came on their own free will; they recognize what we are doing and they want to be a part of the PPP/C,” he said.
Persaud maintained that real development is an all-encompassing process
