PPP/C presents list of “willing” candidates on Nomination Day – “we are sprinting now”- President Jagdeo

President Bharrat Jagdeo, Prime Minister Samuel Hinds O.E, and Presidential Candidate Donald Ramotar leading a procession to City Hall on Nomination Day

The ruling People’s Progressive Party Civic(PPP/C) was the first political party to submit its list of nominees for the 2011 National and Regional elections to Chief Elections Officer Gocool Boodhoo at City Hall today as Nomination Day got underway.

The list contains representatives willing and committed to serve the PPP/C according to President Bharrat Jagdeo who joined his cabinet colleagues in accompanying Presidential Candidate Donald Ramotar on a march to the municipality.

“There has been no promise to anyone… no one has been promised ministers or advisors position. They’re there on the list simply because they want to associate themselves with the PPP,” President Jagdeo said.

The lists consists of 435 candidates which the party in a release described as committed youthful, experienced and qualified Guyanese who are “dedicated to working towards the continued modernization and progress of our country.”

The release added that candidates are selected from diverse geographic locations throughout Guyana, including the hinterland regions (31%based on geographic list), urban centres (20% based on geographic list) and coastal and rural communities (40% based on geographic list) to name a few.

The party’s list was compared to that of other political parties which President Jagdeo said contains candidates who had to be assured of senior positions to join the roster.

Asked whether his name was on the current list, the President and former Finance Minister responded in the negative, explaining that he has no plans of returning to Parliament but will be a major patron to the work of the party through other capacities.

President Jagdeo said a decision is still to be made whether he will serve in an advisory position after elections but reiterated that there has been no promise to any candidate placed on the list.

The Head of State, Prime Minister Samuel Hinds O.E, Presidential Candidate and a crowd of supporters carrying the party flags and other paraphernalia led a procession from Freedom House to City Hall.

Ramotar presented the list that includes nominees from the geographic, regional and national constituencies. He later told members of the media that the list “reflects the whole country.”

Asked about long serving member Moses Nagamootoo joining the Alliance for Change (AFC) party, Ramotar said it was no surprise but does not see it as an impediment to the party’s victory at the polls.

After the list was submitted, the team returned to Freedom House where a crowd of supporters awaited with cheers.

Presidential Adviser on Governance Gail Teixeira described today as an expression of national unity and reminisced on the day in 1953 when the first national party was elected to office.

Prime Minister Hinds who also spoke said Guyanese have the opportunity at the 2011 elections to relive former President, Dr Cheddi Jagan’s dream of making a victory for the PPP, a victory for Guyana.

President Jagdeo described today as the “sprint phase” in the race to elections and reminded the gathering not to treat the elections with apathy but make their vote count on polling day.

“The work begins in earnest today… we are at the sprint now, we have been trotting all along… so I hope that all of you are prepared to do that,” President Jagdeo said.

The PPP/C launched its manifesto on October 23 outlining plans to propel growth and development for the next five years. Ramotar told the gathering today that Guyana is poised to become the most dynamic once the manifesto is implemented.

He said Guyana it today a “shining star” compared to 1992 when it was described by the Caribbean council of Churches as the poorest in the hemisphere and credited this achievement to efforts by the ruling party to rebuild hope and pride in the nation.

On the list Bookman is extremely happy to see such longstanding formidable PPP stalwarts like Ralph Ramkarran, Clement Rohee, Gail Teixeira, Komal Chand, Navin and Indra Chandarpal, Shirley Edwards, Bijulee Motie from Berbice, and Harry Persaud Nokta.
I applaud the PPP/C for including Joey Jagan and Manzoor Nadir on its national list.
I heartily welcome all the newcomers on the list. They are qualified and committed patriots who will surely take our dear Guyana up the highway to further progress and prosperity.
Onward to another victory for the PPP/C on November 28!

Demerara Waves reports:
"The PPP marched to City Hall from Freedom House with a contingent the police estimated at 3,800 while APNU departed from the Square of the Revolution and arrived with a crowd in excess of 5,000 according to the police...The AFC had gathered at Parade Ground mustering several hundreds before marching across to City Hall."

Bookman's oracle says this is a bad omen for the AFC. Their Doomsday is fast approaching.

How could Manzoor Nadir, self-claimed leader of TUF be on PPP's list of candiddates?

Alot of new faces on this list. It look like even Arafat is running for the PPP. I am happy Ralph and Narvin are on the list.

Wally, Bookman is just a humble PPP supporter these days, very content to promote the PPP/C as a matter of conviction and duty. Bookman wants nothing for himself in return, just the satisfaction of another Party victory at the polls on November 28.
For the past 42 years I've been marching with the PPP only, no other party.
BTW, Bookman was on the PPP list in the 1985 general elections. Those were tough times, Wally.

Those were the days when Jagan, Nagamooto and others were beeing hounded and beaten by Lamumba, Joe Hamilton, Norman McClean, Kit Nascimento and the other PNC & House of Isreal Thugs and Killers.

After Jagan died these very thugs became Jagdeo & Ramotar closest friends.

BOOKMAN WOULD VERIFY THIS IF HE WANTS TO SPEAK THE TRUTH.

For Bookman, one big surprise is the inclusion of popular gold miner Frederick Mc Wilfred in the PPP/C list of candidates.
The upcoming PPP/C rally at Bartica this weekend is expected to draw a large attendance of miners and their families. Mr Mc Wilfred is expected to outline PPP/C initiatives in the mining sector.
Vote PPP/C for a golden future!

Robert Persaud has done a great job so far in managing the PPP/C 2011 elections campaign team. It's not easy. He must have felt gratified yesterday when GECOM officials reportedly said only the PPP/C submitted its list of candidates correctly.
There is more heavy work ahead, but I'm confident all the PPP/C activists will close rank, put their shoulders to the wheel and ensure a convincing, resounding victory on November 28.
Onward, upward always with the PPP/C!

Irfaan is a true politician - if he is a scamp and did all those things you guys said he did then he needs to explain himself. However, I think he is a good Minister who needs to be kept in line if he's tempted to stray.

On that point I'll list the current Ministers I like and who I think should be involved in any national government or in the next PPP govt.

Proposed New Posts

1. Frank Anthony - Health
2. Irfaan Ali - Education
3. Priya Manickchand - needs work/Human Services
4. Robert Persaud - I hate to admit it but he is effective - Information
5. Ashni Singh - Finance
