President Irfaan Ali has officially congratulated President-elect of the United States of America, Joe Biden.

In a letter dated November 7, President extended congratulations on behalf of himself and Government.

β€œAs you prepare to assume the Presidency please accept my best wishes for a successful term in office and for your continued good health and well-being.”

President Ali said he looks forward to continued partnership between the two states.

β€œI look forward to working closely with you to confront critical strategic matters of interest to the international community including the COVID-19 pandemic. Further, Guyana looks forward to consolidating and strengthening our bilateral ties with the United States of America in the ensuing years,” the President stated.

Biden defeated incumbent Donald Trump in the 2020 elections to become the 46th US President. Serving beside him will be the first female Vice President Kamala Harris.

Opposition Leader congratulates Biden, Harris on election win

Opposition Leader, Joseph Harmon has extended congratulations to President-elect of the United States of America, Joe Biden and Vice President-elect, Kamala Harris.

In a letter to the President-elect, Harmon lauded the election of Harris as the first person of colour to be elected to that position.

Recognising that the US is home to the largest Guyanese diaspora, Harmon said: β€œit is no surprise that the people of Guyana, both here and in the United States, rejoice at the welcome news of your election to the White House.”

β€œOur nation looks forward to engaging with you, Vice President-elect Harris and your Cabinet in strengthening bilateral relations and building a stronger and more unified CARICOM and Caribbean basin,” he added.

Harmon said the Opposition APNU+AFC Coalition looks forward to briefing the new administration on the political situation in Guyana.

He said his party commits to working with the new US administration to β€œrebuild trust between our peoples, strengthening goodwill and re-establishing constitutional democracy and social cohesion in Guyana after a recent period of political and social turmoil and distress.”

The period of political and social turmoil and distress to which the Opposition Leader refers, is the recently concluded elections which lasted five months due to his party’s refusal to concede defeat.

Guyanese went to the polls on March 2, however, the results which were supposed to be declared days after, were derailed by attempts to steal the elections followed by several allegations of fraud by the APNU+AFC.

Refusing to accept defeat, the incumbent US President Donald Trump has claimed that dead persons voted and refused to demit office; his claims are similar to those made by the APNU+AFC and former Guyanese President, David Granger.

The APNU+AFC has levelled several allegations of fraud in the 2020 elections and have also included same in its elections petitions which were filed in the High Court.

Like in Guyana, vote count on election night showed an early win for Trump, however, this lead was diminished and he later lost as the count continued.

Attempts to steal Guyana’s election were reversed through international pressure, particularly from the United States. The US has even revoked visas of elections officials and several high-ranking officials in the previous administration.

Quite strange no mention of US Vice-President - Elect Kamala Harris ,in Irfaan Ali congratulatory letter.

While other Caribbean Leaders mention the US Vice President Elect in their congratulatory messages.

This is quite a lack luster letter. Seems like it was drawn up in a hurry by a high school drop out. It is a national embarrassment that he did not extend the sentiments of congratulating Kamala who in this case, for the first time a woman and who is one of color has been elected by the people.

It's still not too late to offer an apology and congratulate Kamala Harris, the holder of the office of Vice-President elect.

Well, Ali is in effect a high school drop out.  Remember, he is an academic fraud.

In many ways congratulating Harris is more unique than Biden, because of her being the first woman and woman of colour as VP elect [and Biden was previously at the WH].

But typical of the PPP, they get a school dropout to draft the letter, cause they don't like people smarter than them and Ali being a printed certificate man, don't know any different to correct it.

Fortunately for Guyana, Harris is not nasty, arrogant and vindictive like the Barrat and those in the PPP. She is professional to the core  and don't see them all as a bunch of dummies, who can't write a   congratulatory letter properly.

This must be a slow night for you knuckleheads to be worried about who can write a letter letter.

This is a switch. Is he speaking for the government? Caricom was already unified against the riggers.

Dummy, what are his first 2 words?
