President and Opposition leader meet on COP post

Georgetown, GINA, June 1, 2012

President Donald Ramotar meets with Opposition Leader Mr. David Granger and A Partnership for National Unity member Joe Harmon in the presence of Head of the Presidential Secretariat Dr Roger Luncheon and Home Affairs Minister Clement Rohee (partly hidden). The officials consulted on the Commissioner of Police post.

We are building a new Guyana. Let the government consult with the opposition parties before appointing the new Police Comm. This is responsible governance.

Consultation with the main opposition party prior to major appointments existed for a long time.

1964 to 1992 -- PNCR government.

1992 to 2012 -- PPP/C government.

I honestly was not aware that this practice was in place for both the PNC and PPP government.
