President lauds CIOG for its role in helping vulnerable children

President Bharrat Jagdeo today took time off from this busy schedule to join more than 400 orphans and vulnerable children at the Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana (CIOG), in Woodford Avenue for their annual children’s fund day.
President Jagdeo expressed appreciation to the CIOG for up keeping its annual event and, for helping to make a difference in the lives of hundreds of children.
“Because of the enlightened leadership of the CIOG and their vision, their programmes continue to be successful,” the Head of State said.
In this regard, the President is urging other religious and social originations to join the example set out by the CIOG in helping children “who are smart as any one else and, have a future like any child but, just had an unfortunate circumstance in their life”.
The President also used the opportunity to express appreciation to the many businesses and entities that continue to support the CIOG’s programmes, noting that, according to the Quoran, there is a special place for persons who continue to help children and families who have opened up their homes for vulnerable children.

The People’s Progressive Party Civic administration, believes strongly in equal rights and opportunities for all the children of this country, President Jagdeo said. “We also believe that our children have to be protected so we have made a lot of investments into things that matter for children to do well…huge investments in the education and health sector,” the President explained.
Pointing to the several pieces of legislation that have been passed for the protection of children, he said, “The children of this country don’t only have a special place in our hearts but a special place in our society.”
He also mentioned the tremendous work done by the Rights of the Child Commission.
PPP/C Presidential candidate Donald Ramotar who was present at the event also expressed appreciation to the CIOG for its unwavering commitment to children.
“It is often said that children are our future, that is true because a large part of our population is children…that is why the Government and the PPP/C party will continue to support the CIOG in its endeavours,” Ramotar said.

CIOG’s Director of Education Shaikh Moen ul-Hack said that the programme caters for children from all three counties, whether they are Muslims or not.
He also added that the event is an annual one under a programme established in 1993 to provide orphans and vulnerable children with financial, educational, medical and social assistance.
Hack also pressed praised the PPP/C administration for their outstanding commitment toward the organisation and more so the children of Guyana. The organisation continues to benefit from various social programmes of the government including school uniform and subsidies for CXC, Hack said.
Bursary Awards were also presented to children who successfully completed their National Grade Six Assessment and Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) exams as well.
