“          Motherhood is the world’s priceless treasure. Unlike most treasures, it is not rare. Mothers are all around; they are the lifeline of society. They nurture, protect, guide and love. A mother’s love knows no boundaries. It is unfailing, unceasing, boundless and most importantly unconditional. This extraordinary capacity to love unreservedly sets motherhood apart, and this is why Mother’s Day is so special. On this Mother’s Day, I extend greetings to all the mothers of Guyana. I thank you for being open to the gift of life. I applaud your selfless sacrifices in raising your children, and in pouring out to them your incalculable love and affection.

To the children, I urge you to forever honour your mothers. It is wonderful that many of you will today be presenting your mothers with gifts as a sign of your affection for them. But far more important than these presents is the time and attention that you give to your mothers. I encourage all of you to be attentive, kind, considerate and honest towards your mothers because a mother’s role in any home, and in your upbringing, is irreplaceable.
