President Ramotar may have to resort to Plan – B
By Kurt Campbell
[www.inewsguyana.com] – It appears as if President Donald Ramotar will have to resort to his plan – B which would see the dissolution of Guyana’s 10th Parliament and the realization of long talked about early general elections ahead of its 2016 due date.
President Ramotar had hoped that he could engage the political Opposition in dialogue after he prorogued Parliament on November 10 ahead of a debate on the No Confidence Motion brought against his administration by the minority Parliamentary Party – the Alliance for Change (AFC).
But even after the Head of State extended a formal/official invitation to the Opposition Leader, Granger is maintaining that there will be no talks with the administration unless the Parliament is recalled.
The President has said however that if dialogue with the Opposition fails, he will move to end the life of the 10th Parliament and go to the polls. Ramotar, who is confident of regaining the government’s majority which it previously held in the Assembly, is yet to announce a definite step in that direction.
What is known is that the current period of prorogation can only last a maximum of six months.
