President’s College clinched a spot in the Under-14 Finals with an easy win over St. Joseph’s High School on Friday in the Georgetown/East Coast Regional Semi-Final Playoffs of the 2017 National Schools Basketball Festival at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
President’s College won 32-18 with Gabriel Lin top scoring with 20 points, eight rebounds and four steals. Joshua Butts had 10 points and 6 rebounds to support Lin.
For St. Joseph, Shaqeem Wilson scored 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds, and Jaheim Jardine added four points.
President’s College Girls will also head to the Regionals’ Finals in the women’s division, eliminating The Bishops’ High School with a 22-14 win in a low-scoring affair.
Analisa Barclay top scored with 11 points and Saffiya Green added six points before fouling out for President’s College. Demelza Nicholas was the lone ranger for Bishops’ High with 10 points and five rebounds.
Marian Academy’s U- 14 boys breezed pass The Bishops’ High 32-11 to join President’s College in the first final of the 2017 Regionals. Ethan Fernandes led Marian Academy with 10 points and four steals, while Meshal Allicock had six points.
Shamar Light had four points, seven rebounds and four steals and Keon Bacchus added four points for Bishops’ High.
President’s College needed overtime to outlast The Bishops’ High 34-32 in the Boys U-16 semis, giving them a perfect three wins from three games for the night. Lanon Friday scored 10 points and grabbed four rebounds and Akinyele Darrell added 10 points for PC.
Royden Glasgow scored 10 points and Nkose Branche contributed six points and 11 rebounds for Bishops’ High.
St. Roses High proved once again that they may be the best U-16 unit when they defeated Marian Academy 38-26 to set up a rematch with PC in the Finals. Anthony Yansen scored 18 points and had six steals and Kwesi Roberts 10 points, seven rebounds and seven steals proved too much for the Marian Defence.
Jether Harris scored nine points with eight rebounds in the losing effort.
The Regionals will continue today with the second Girls’ semi-final between Marian Academy and St. Roses at 4pm, followed by the four under 19 quarterfinals. The Georgetown/ East Coast Regional Finals is set for Friday.
The tournament is sponsored by Edward B Beharry Group of Companies Ltd and the National Sports Commission.
