President says will use laws to end race hate on social media

The following statement was issued by President Irfaan Ali:

“As your President, it is my bounden duty and I am unequivocally committed to governing our country for all of its people, regardless of political affiliation or ethnic origin and I shall do that without reservation.

“It deeply grieves me, therefore, when I see almost every day on social media, the degree of race-baiting, racial hate, and racial hostility which pervades the social media platforms. I want you to know that it is my determination to do everything within my power and to use all the laws at my disposal to put an end to this behavior, which can only result in dividing our country and our people.

“The use of social media to resort to the perseverance of racial hate for political purpose is wholly unacceptable to me as your President, and as a person, and my government will not tolerate it.

“I have spoken with my Attorney General and I have directed him to ensure that the full force of our laws are employed and are applied to those who pursue this criminal behavior.

“I remind those persons guilty of this abuse of the social media that freedom of expression guaranteed by our Constitution as a fundamental right and freedom does not relate, nor extend to hate speeches or other expressions, in whatever form, capable of exciting hostility or ill-will against any person or class of persons.

“I further remind that such conduct, publications, and utterances constitute grievous criminal offenses under the Racial Hostilities, Cybercrime and other similar penal legislation and the State will not hesitate to resort to these provisions in our laws in appropriate circumstances.”

Timely release. Seems directed at Granger and Harmon who spent yesterday fanning the flames of hatred and violence following the murder of those two teenagers. Sadly they didn't chose the road of trying to calm the protestors anger as the PPP did in March when violence broke out in March following the PNC trying to rig the elections. Shame on the PNC.

Back in March during the protests I remember seeing videos of Ali, Jagdeo, Priya, Edghill, Vindhi, Nandlall to name a few out in the streets telling the protestors to go home and wait for the elections saga to play out. The PPP ensured the protestors that they will handle the elections and they don't want protestors out on the street exposing themselves or others to danger but most importantly they don't want any of their supporters breaking the law. Now Granger and his cabal is sitting safely in their homes fanning the flames on the street. Yesterday when he visited #5 he was telling the protestors to form their own vigilante group. Imagine a former president who still claims he should be the president encouraging violence and mayhem on the street. Shameful.

Governing ALLLL the people, Ali should pay close attention to the number of PNC seats in parliament. Those seats are close in numbers to his party.  As such he should demonstrate respect. Okay, they are a terrible group of people but for the sake of peace try not to antagonize dem. That Putagee woman denying dem places on government boards is a putagee who doan give a dam about kulies and black man. She is all about power and inportance. Besides she is a minority and less than the Native brothers.

Guyana has too many wrong people in power.
