Presidential advisor on governance, Gail Teixeira has shunned the belief that the People’s Progressive Party only represents Indo-Guyanese.
While admitting that the race factor still has an impact on voters, she noted that the population is more educated now to make better choices.
She noted that Guyana’s population is largely impacted by it post colonial history, however the young population is more independent in their views.
Nonetheless, she added that race alone cannot determine the government of the day as there is not sufficient persons in one ethnic group to put a political party in power.
She noted that the Indo-Guyanese population is about forty three percent while the Afro-Guyanese is bout thirty percent and the Amerindian population is now ten percent.
In this regard, she urged that persons vote based on merit.
