Prince Philip's trip to Guyana delivered a clear message to President Desmond Hoyte. Prince Philip told Hoyte in his meeting with him. "If there is no democracy in Guyana then I will use my influence to make sure sanctions bring about democracy to Guyana". Those were strong words from a symbolic Royal but it sent a clear message to Hoyte. He knew that the game was over and there was nothing that he could do.
