169 graduate from NTPYE in Region 4PDFPrintE-mail

THE Board of Industrial Training (BIT) yesterday held a graduation ceremony for 169 persons, who successfully completed training in over 21 occupational areas under the National Training Project for the Youth Empowerment Programme (NTPYE) and the Single Parent Training Programme.

BIT offers six months of free training for persons who are school drop-outs and unemployed. In Region 4, the graduates came from Georgetown, and the East Bank and East Coast of Demerara. The occupational areas to which the single parents were exposed are Information Technology and Office Procedures, Catering and Cake Decoration, Garment Construction, Cosmetology, Child Care Assistant, Care for the Elderly and Driver/Salesman courses.
The NTYPE trainees were exposed through the Brass Aluminum, Cast Iron Foundry Company (BACIF), to pattern making, welding and fabricating, fitting and metal machining.
The NTYPE initiative has been one of many BIT/Private sector collaborative initiatives. Soon to be included will be additional courses such as customer care, a component included as part of the IT training.

Vice Chairman of BIT, Mr. Clinton Williams congratulated the batch for completing the six-month course. He said what the training has provided is the education which will further create opportunities for employment for the unemployed and school drop- outs.
Mr. Williams added that there will soon be six new facilities on board to help BIT to continue training of the students. This was accommodated by the late Chairman of BIT, the Rev. Dr. Dale Bisnauth, as one of his last contributions to the programme. He succeeded in attracting several new companies/organisations including

Demerara Distillers, Guyana Forestry Commission (GFC), GUYSUCO and Caricom Rice Mills, which all agreed to increase their intake of students from the BIT programmes for occupational skills training. The GFC will be the first of these companies to be involved with the training.
Mr. Williams highlighted that for the current batch of graduates, there has been no drop-outs, with 100% attendance by all the students.

He urged the graduates to strive to be their own entrepreneurs and the kind of persons Guyana wants, and  to use the skills they have towards nation building and to continue to encourage others to get on board with the training programmes.
Other attendees at the ceremony included member of the BIT and Principal of Linden Technical Institute, Mr. Denis Jaikaran, Single Parent Trainee, Ms. Cherly Perry, and officials of the Ministry of Human Services, Social Security and Labour.

Sections of the opposition acknowledge that indeed the  Board of Industrial Training (BIT) and
the Youth Empowerment Programme (NTPYE) and the Single Parent Training Programme, benefits all Guyana, yet in the same breath, they are slashing funds from the project.
