The kid began his extra lessons at 630AM, went to school and then went to extra lessons until 7PM. Obviously he also had to find time to do his homework.
This is NOT healthy and Guyanese need to stop thinking that it is!

Congrats to all of this year's top performers.
For as long as I can remember, educators in the US have argued that kids who participate in sports do better in school. That said, there are kids motivated to participate in school as well as other extra curricular activities. There are others who prefer only school while there are those who are lungeras and are of no use to themselves or others. So why are we having a cow about this kid?

In fact there is a new concept called STEAM. Creativity as well as innovativeness is important for success.
Starting to school at 6:30AM and ending at 7:00PM and then doing homework doesn't allow a rounded personality to develop.
Guyanese are still trapped in the notion that "brilliant scholars" are what's needed. No what is needed are brilliant people with rounded personalities. Academics yes, but also other activities.

Carib bai, the brother is 16 now. What he managed to do so far is develop a good attitude for education. Passing 25 subjects took dedication and discipline. Qualities that can only help him as he gets older and develop other skills. I find it very difficult to find fault with this kid as I would easily find fault with other kids who show no signs of ambition, dedication or value.
The likkle banna never even inhaled...dam!

I hope the parents never forced him to do this. I know of a family who forced the kids to study, locked them up in the house in the summer when other kids were busy playing bumper ball, picking jamoon, fishing etc. and doing other things. Well, the kids: Three of them went nuts.

Three went nuts and four are doctors if we talking about the same family.

Sorry Bibi. This is not the same family. This family has one doctor(Phd).

Education isn't just passing exams. Let us leave at this. Maybe the guy does have a rich range of activities other than sitting in class and doing homework but his backward parents and the backward media failed to address this.
Life isn't about reading a book and regurgitating its contents.

The fact that 3 were destroyed is no shock. I can only wonder how good the doctors are as to be effective one needs to know how to communicate with patients.
