The Speaker ordered that the Police remove MP Edghill from the National Assembly because he repeatedly refused to comply with his orders based on the rules of the said National Assembly. He is the head enforcer of the rules of the National Assembly. Assuming that Dr. Scotland has a house with house rules and lots of of children. As a father and head of the house who enforces the rules of his home, what would he do if one of his children repeatedly refuse his order? Would he order the Police to come to his home and have his child removed? Would he consider other options? Would he personally assault his child until he complies with his order(s). Would there be chaos and even violence in his home? What would happen if Dr. Scotland worked in a jail and an inmate repeatedly refuses his orders?

Dondada,

Rules are rules especially in the "Parliament"

"Parliament" is not a personnel home,it's the highest institution in a Country.

Looking at some the Guyanese Parliamentarians, they behave like toddlers.

I have rules in my home and my expectation the children abides by it.I have adult children living home, most Guyanese Immigrant allows that, they have to abide with rules,i told them flat out if you can't, find your own home.Although they are adults you are answerable if some thing goes wrong.

North Americans children, they are out by 18 yrs.

The only rule breaker is MP Juan Edghill for refusing the speaker's order. The police were called in to assist with his removal. He was arrested when he crosses the police barricade upon reentering the parliament when the speaker's order was still enforced. It's a simple matter of following rules, not to be wrong and strong.

Django, with all due respect, I disagree with you. Parliament is the Nation’s Playpen, where the nations appointed children play. Dr. Scotland is the head of the Nations playpen and his own playpen at home. I Dr. Scotland’s home is his and his children’s playpen. Every rule has a purpose. Rules are made to be respected. In order for the children to respect the rules, they need to be listened to first. If they can’t be listened to and heard, then the children will feel disrespected. I saw the the live broadcast of the National Assembly that day. Although MP Eghill repeatedly gave his reasons for refusing the order, the Speaker who refused to listen to him. The Speaker had other options, like suspending the proceedings so of the house and seek an apology from the child for his behaviour. There are times when one has to step back and times when one has to step forward. I feel that Speaker Scotland was only concerned about exercising the powers given to him by past and or present members of the Nation’ Playpen.Had he listened to MP Edghill and apply reason to the matter, and or exercise other options, the entire situation could have been avoided. I think, Speaker Scotland was biased, unreasonable and abused the powers he was entrusted with.

Prince, go work in a jail and see what happens to you if an inmate refuses your order. They will send you scurrying to find an underground condominium.

I will tell you what I told other posters in similar circumstances. I am discussing your topic by pointing what I know for a fact. If my facts are not good enough for you, just say so and let's move on. I don't want to be told to work in a jail, etc, etc. This kind of talking just derail the topic off track.

This guy is a dead PNC'ite who has constantly bullied the PPP MP's in Parliament long before this incident   He has no diplomacy in restoring order in Parliament because he sees everything through the PNC's eyes.  He should be fired instantly.  Time for the PNC to go!!

alena06

One of our esteem GNIer said Granger didn't want a neutral speaker in parliament for reasons that you mentioned. I observe the same as you when I raised to question. But saying - "Time for PNC to go" sound identical to what Yuji would say. You might as well say - "Agra-Ka-Daabra" and hope the PNC with disappear. I don't think the PNC can be moved by a magic wand. Practical solutions needed.

Your facts appears to be supportive of the head of the National Playpen. OK, you are entitled to your opinion and I respect that. Suppose that Edghill felt that it was unreasonable and disrespectful for the Speaker to ignore what he had to say. Would you follow an unjust order? Having said that, I will blame the PPP/C for negotiating a time limit without conditions on the Budget estimates, just like I will blame them, without getting or seeing the documents they requested from Ministers, for remaining silent and having the estimates passed without objections. They too, meaning the PPP/C are also playing games with the Nations business.

Prince,

I disagree the Police were called to the chambers, that could have been taken care off by the Speaker and both party Whips.

Edghill did show disrespect in the house and further disrespected his suspension by attempting to enter the precincts of the Parliament,I read on FB post it's it's against the  house rules of Parliament.

These Parliamentarians are sending a wrong message to the People of the Country, they acts like they are in the fish market.Sometimes i think they are a bunch of rejects who can't make it in the real world.Their actions clearly shows a lot of hate.

Those Videos are broadcast live,I am sure people in other Country are laughing at them.

You did not see any disrespect for the PPP when the PNC thugs were thumping the tables when Rohee was giving his speech in parliament? Don't bring this "respect" thing when you talk about the PNC. They have none. Do you agree with a black man taking out his penis and showing it to the coolie women and asking them if this is what they want? Django buddy, be serious and objective. Or maybe you are saying that respect is all relative.

Why wasn't the police called in last Friday when someone dressed as Santa Claus from Simona Brooms office invaded Parliament and breached security?  Edghill is an elected Member of Parliament and the police was called on him.

Dondadda,

With all due respects to your post.To each his own.

I think Barton Scotland is trying to bring some sanity in the house.

He is not a Burnhamite and are Educated.

The Speaker of the House cannot, under any circumstances, order the arrest of a Member of Parliament outside of Parliament.  His jurisdiction lies within the walls of the chambers of Parliament.  Edghill was arrested on the street outside of Parliament.

The speaker did not direct the arrest outside of Parliament.Where do you get that from ? there were barriers in areas around Parliament and he went inside, knowing it's illegal.

His suspension from Parliament, according to the rules, takes effect.

I willn't bother with that, let the court decides.

The rules said he can't be in the precincts of parliament due to his suspension.

When there are barriers in certain areas around the Parliament on the Street, the precincts of Parliament are extended, simple as that, you can't invade cordoned of areas.

And he shouldn't because the police are not allowed in Parliament.  Today one of them from the CID was undercover in the Chamber and sat with the journalists pretending he was one of them. Gary Eleazer caught him and had him thrown out.

The Speaker asked him to sit down because Edghill was questioning the 68 million dollars allocated to an African development project.  He knew they were trying to rig the Budget like how they rigged the election.  The Budget was passed with NO QUESTIONS ASKED!  There is an article on that in today's papers.

Mits, respect us earned. In this case, the speaker has lost the respect of the member specifically because of his attitude towards the opposition members.

regarding the issue, amna ally had agreed to extend the time previous to the sitting. However, the time allocations did not reflect the extended time.

I raised the issue of a higher moral purpose on another thread so I do not fault edgehill if that is thePPP primary reason for his refusal.

Regardless of what the disobedience was, the police should not have been permitted to or enter parliament.

I think that the PPP made a strategic mistake. They argue that the edgehill situation was a planned distraction from the bonus issue organized by the govt. they should have tried to diffuse the situation and back away from escalation, even if provoked. now, that issue is on the back burner. Unless there are new questions arising from granger's statement
