Norway releases G$9B in project funding to Guyana

The Kingdom of Norway has released G$9.1B to the Guyana REDD+ Investment Fund, which represents the remainder of the pledge made by that country back in 2009.

The monies will be administered by the World Bank for disbursement to Guyana for approved projects. In September, Norway had agreed to release the monies as part of a bilateral agreement made between the two nations in 2009.

According to a release from the Ministry of the Presidency, the release of the funds was confirmed by the Head of the Project Management Office of the Ministry of the Presidency, Dr. Marlon Bristol.

Bristol noted that the release of funds was made last Wednesday to the World Bank; the agency issued a confirmation today that the funds have been received.

Dr. Bristol noted that the funds will be used for projects in areas such as renewable energy, ‘green’ tourism, biodiversity, strengthening of indigenous mechanisms, and the European Union- FLEGT Voluntary Partnership Agreement (VPA) Partnership, which is a legally binding trade agreement between the European Union and a timber-producing country outside the EU.

He further noted that Guyana will also enter a new round of talks with the Norwegians to support President David Granger’s Green State Development Strategy (GSDS) and especially those environmental safeguards that can realize a ‘green’ economy.

“These fruitful developments are possible owing to the hard work of several Ministers and especially the Minister of State under whose purview the Guyana REDD+ Investment (GRIF) falls under; other Government agencies, Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs), Indigenous Peoples’ representation among others. A special thank you as well to you to the Kingdom of Norway. Project development can now move ahead assiduously for the full realization of long-awaited benefits to the Guyanese people. From a slow start and a past of penalty to the tune of USD $15 million before this Government took office, the Guyana Norway Agreement can now boast of satisfactory results,” he said.

The transfer has been made possible following a meeting between Minister of State, Dawn Hastings-Williams and Norway’s Minister for Climate and Environment, Mr. Ola Elvestuen back in September on the margins of the United Nations Climate Summit in New York.

During that meeting, Norway had agreed to pay over the $393.4 Norwegian Kroner or approximately US$50M of climate funds to Guyana, which authorities said represents the remainder of the pledge made by that country back in 2009.

In accordance with the bilateral agreement between the two countries, the two ministers had agreed that Guyana has met its commitments and therefore Norway would disburse all final payments.

Minister Hastings-Williams acknowledged that at this juncture both countries indeed would have met their responsibilities with the final release.

If you need to be reminded  Guyana is a racist Country, the political system is divided by race, the country is divided by race certain occupation is dominated by race. Whenever one race is in office they work to benefit their race.

I am just putting a spotlight on historic Facts. Call me what you may but being political correct is only being in denial.

When the White man discriminate on you in NA you are too scared to call it racism. We all live in a racist society, take the blinders off. Thank you.

It's those two Dicks in Berbice who caused this country to fall into the hands of the PNC again. Forget about Jagan's mistakes and D'Aguar's sellout. This time it's bitterness and jealously that led to the PPP's downfall. Moses and Ramjattan can go to hell.

You surely don't know who assisted Guyana in the Norway deal. Currently that organization don't seems to care much about the PPP.

Norway to give Guyana up to $250M for rainforest conservation

Rhett A. Butler

" alt="" data-reader-unique-id="8" />

Norway will provide up to $250 million to Guyana as part of the South American country’s effort to avoid emissions from deforestation.

Under the terms of the agreement, signed today, Norway will put $30 million into Guyana’s “REDD+” development fund. Subsequent payments — up to $250 million in total — would be contingent of Guyana’s ability to avoid future deforestation. Guyana’s deforestation is presently negligible, but the country has argued that proposed development projects could lead to an increase in logging and conversion for large-scale agriculture and plantations. It says the development fund will be used for sustainable development projects and climate change adaptation measures.

“We want to avoid the high-carbon development trajectory that today’s developed world followed,” said President Bharrat Jagdeo in a statement. “It will be impossible to defeat climate change if we don’t significantly reduce tropical deforestation. We said several years ago that the people of Guyana stood ready to play our part in determining how this can be done. We are delighted to work alongside Norway in searching for solutions that align the development aspirations of our people with the urgent need to protect the world’s tropical forests.”

Jagdeo signed the Norway agreement and Janet signed the Exxon agreement!  But as luck will have it, PPP shot themselves in the foot with their anti-American sentiments and PNC reap the benefits!

Stories News 2009 11 10 2With the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Guyana and Norway to protect Guyana’s tropical forests yesterday at the bucolic Fairview village, Region Nine, on the banks of the mighty Essequibo River, Guyana could receive as much as US$250M by 2015 to support the implementation of the Low-Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS).The agreement was signed by Head of State Bharrat Jagdeo and the Norwegian Minister of International Development and the Environment, Erik Solheim. The MoU is a declaration of the two countries’ determination to work together to provide the world with a working example of how partnerships between developed and developing countries can save the world’s tropical forests

There is no sin in speaking the truth bai. At least the PPP made real contributions to Guyana’s development. The PNC’s only record is one of deception and destruction.

Mr.Dave you don't have to post articles showing your god signing the deal, that's known. Do you know the org , that helped to get that deal materialize , so Guyana can get revenues from the forest.

I know who was involved to get the Norway deal. So credit isn't for Jagdeo alone.

Bai, the buck stops with the President. Why do you think we insist that Granger behave like a law abiding citizen? It wasn't him who started all this nonsense after the NCV but he gets the blame because he hides under his bed instead of correcting the actions of his party. No matter how much work anyone else put into the effort, it would all be for naught if Jagdeo refuses to sit at that table and sign that agreement. Similarly, look how much work went into ratifying the NCV (even the CCJ judges worked diligently on it) Granger's behavior is rendering all that work wasted.

When this deal was signed I remembered remarking that Jagdeo was smart that he can sell free air to the Norwegians. So it was Jagdeo who brought this money to Guyana. It was also Jagdeo who legally brought down the hapless Coalition government causing them to pass this year Christmas as illegally squatting in office.

That idea was not his .One US past pezi had lots of interest in that Country after 1992.Dr.Jagan ask the past prezi to help with plans to develop the country, which was done ,even Jagdeo as a young man was involved. After the death of Dr.J ,most of those plans didn't materialize under Jagdeo. Also he made that prezi hand fall ,never tried to implement some of the recommendations. From then on seems like there is a fall out.

LOL ...well on the last para ... that was his idea ...the results are it backfired. Just like some of his other ideas to develop the country , look around you will see the failure , don't hide under the carpet.

Bai, all that you write there ignores the fact that Jagdeo signed the document that effectively sold free air to the Norwegians. No amount of denial or deflection can change that.

And regarding the NCV. It has not backfired at all. It was legally passed and the Coalition are on record as illegally squatting in office. No different than Trump is on record as the only the 3rd impeached President. No amount of talk about fake news or hoax or anything of that 32>33 nonsense can erase the records written. Granger and his illegal government has been limited in their incompetence of a year now because of that NCV. No doubt they are still refusing to obey law and order but they would have been a runaway train in their further destruction of Guyana had that NCV not been there to keep them in check. Now they may still burn the country to the ground next year but we will cross that bridge when we get there.

So wake up and smell the coffee my brother. You backing the wrong horse. That one will lead you directly to hell. Come to your senses. Come to Jesus and know that as his birthday arrives tomorrow, so can your awakening.

Jagdeo is no Putinisque. He never held any fake elections like Putin does. It looks more like Granger will proved to be a Putinisque when the elections get underway next year. So since you are determined not to back a Putinisque, you should stop backing Granger.
