One of the many scenes
(Russell Street) around
the city yesterday.
A heavy downpour that began on Saturday night brought more woes to Georgetownβs citizens, in the all too form of flooded yards and roadways and floating refuse.
High levels of water were evident in several city streets and walkways, while floodwaters were seen up to the doors of some houses and business spots.
Some areas that experienced the inundation were Albouystown, South Ruimveldt, Wortmanville, Cummingsburg, Queenstown, and Alberttown. However, the water did recede rapidly in some areas, which suggests that the pumps on the coastline were in overdrive.
The floods come at a time when Government is preparing to embark on a $1 billion plan to clean the cityβs canals, drains and kokers, as well as remove tons of garbage.
