Political critics have always labelled Ramjattan and Moses as political opportunist and traitors.
The recent signing of an accord merging the PNC and AFC plays right into the hands of the PPP and sends AFC supporters who registered a protest vote during the last election back into the arms of the PPP.
In effect, this deal gives the PPP a predicted 54 Percent Majority.
The desperation of Ramjattan and Moses is quite obvious. They are no longer able to mobilize their base. First, the AFC organized several failed meetings that did not attract any support and then organized several failed political protests.
Combine that with a failed Congress which was poorly attended where delegated had to be bussed in spells more disaster. It was quite visible that the AFC lacked the ability to organize and hold a congress where delegates sat on patio chairs and eating from the back of a mini bus.
The AFC is almost bankrupt.
Combine the above factors amid allegations of wronging doing and some high profile defectors, and one gets the big picture about the AFC and it's many failures.
The AFC still had one trump card in Moses who as Presidential Candidate of a AFC/PNC marriage, could have posed a major threat to the PPP.
In desperation, Ramjattan and Moses sold out their party supporters despite vowing to never form an alliance with the PPP or PNC.
Moses in effect has now been rebranded as a Neemakharam by loyal AFC supporters. He has done it twice ! Moses should be handed a Neemakharam Oscar Award.
Ramjattan always seems to display a sense of desperation and a quest for revenge. He gave up the AFC trump card in order to remain relevant.
In the end, the decision to merge the AFC with the PNC destroys a party of third option for Guyanese and sends their supporters back into the arms of the PPP. A majority of AFC supporters will never vote PNC.
Enter Mark Benschop, a young Guyanese who vow to remain independent of the two major parties. Mark pledges to bring back a viable third option for Guyanese. This announcement is good news for the PPP since Mark may take away at lease two seats from the PNC.
This election will see a 54 Percent PPP majority unless they make a major election blunder.
This is quite an interesting election. Moses and Ramjattan sold out their AFC Animal Farm to the PNC at a great loss.
