There are politicians in Guyana's political opposition that will use just about any opportunity to cast a shadow over the government and ruling party even if it borders on the nonsensical or insane. One such example is the AFC's take after Minister of Tourism, Irfaan Ali stated that he will be approaching the Minister of Finance Dr. Ashni Singh for a greater incentive for the Tourism industry as he is “determined to transform Guyana into the ideal Entertainment spot in the Caribbean.”

The AFC sees this as a slap in the face of local artistes and in seeking to add a new category of state dependents it suggests government provide studio time funding and tax exemptions for our local artistes. That party would do well to look at the amount of state funding provided to artistes in Barbados, Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago and whether or not this lack of state funding has hampered the creative ability of those artistes.

Of course it did not miss an opportunity to cast a shadow over the operations of local promoters as well as the government by questioning the source of funding for locally staged events. In fact the party's member of parliament Trevor Williams boldly stated 'truth is, there has always been a lot of silence on who is really funding these concerts and how much these international and regional artists are being paid'. However, you'd think that the bright minds in the AFC would know that it is the very local promoters over whose source of funding they're casting a shadow that has to provide the platform for local artistes and not the government. If by this statement Williams' intention was to question the amount of government support provided to promoters during these events then it shows that he and his party have been asleep in parliament. A similar inquiry was made in 2013 by APNU's Carl Greenidge and it was then pointed out that during certain period tax waivers are extended to all promoters who hosts such events as the one in question and this is as far as government support goes.

Why is it not nonsensical to ask why the government is spending to bring a john legend for 15 thousand people? You guys had to pay him a quarter of a mil tax free plus swag for him to come there. Why should the government do that?

You know that? There are indications the government paid for it. let them come out and say it not you. You have no credibility on the matter. I guess the tax breaks are also awarded by the local promoter.

Again, let the government explain. Even at 100US a seat that is not enough to pay this artiste to come. Someone had to be subsidizing the local promoter since there is hardly business in losing propositions. Even with tax being waived ( why?) there would not be enough money to go around.

There is nothing for govt to explain, they have a country to run, they don't have time to sit around all day answering accusations. If I were you and the PNC/AFC, the first logical choice is to get evidence via the promoter then hurl your accusations. But dummies like you pronounce the govt guilty until proven innocent.
