DEMERARA WAVES has reported that President Ramotar left Guyana Saturday to attend the funeral of Mr Nelson Mandela in South Africa.
While this trip is commendable, it's regrettable President Ramotar is not carrying the spirit of Mandela in his heart and mind.
Nelson Mandela's most defining character trait was that he forgave his political opponents in the spirit of peace and reconciliation.
All Guyana knows that the PNC consistently supported Nelson Mandela and his African National Congress politically, diplomatically, morally and financially for decades.
Why didn't President Ramotar include PNC leader David Granger in his procession to Mandela's funeral?
US President Barack Obama has offered plane seats to former presidents including political opponent George W Bush to travel with him to South Africa.
Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper of the Political Conservative Party is taking along a former Liberal PM, Jean Cretien.
Obama and Harper are clearly travelling to South Africa with the Mandela spirit of peace and reconciliation.
How much would it have taken Ramotar to do the same?
Imagine how PNC supporters, representing a big portion of Guyana's population, are feeling at Mr Ramotar's mean-spirited omission of their leader Granger.
