Rampant Corruption within the PPP
At the Press Conference last Wednesday I announced my support for the Alliance for Change. This is because as I examined the spectrum of political parties vying for the Presidency and the right to govern Guyana, I recognize Prakash Ramjattan and Raphael Trotman as excellent choices to take this country out of the morass that it is in, a consequence of the corruption, the mismanagement, the lack of proper governance practices and gross incompetence.
Of course I am not suggesting that the PPP government has not done some good and the distribution of land would be one area. However the standard of living of our people have deteriorated over the past years. I became convinced that the post Cheddi incumbents have very little in common with his ideals. The post Cheddi government with emphasis on the last term of President Jagdeo is characterised by self enrichment and the enrichment of friends and family, deep and barefaced corruption, as billions are unaccounted for as there are a number of hidden bank accounts from which monies are drawn and utilized without the approval of parliament as is required by the Constitution of Guyana.
Of note is that corruption is one of the areas that I emphasized on Spotlight with Grantly Waldrond, Plain Talk with Christopher Ram and on the Justice for All programme with CN Sharma. To note, Moses Nagamootoo and Ralph Ramkarran spoke of the growing corruption within the Jagdeo government. However Presidential hopeful Donald Ramotar has not been heard to make any criticisms of the malpractices of the present cabal. It is interesting that these programmes did not warrant a response from the party or government. When however my support for the AFC was announced the Rip Van Winkles awoke from their slumber and Donald on NCN said that I was expelled from the PPP. He has now to say when, why and who constituted the disciplinary committee as is required by the PPP’s constitution.
Important to note is that executive member, Robert Persaud, on the Carib Forum Web site stated I was not active for a few months. The PPP spends so much of their time on air and at their public meeting criticizing the AFC. Clearly it indicates that it is a force to be reckoned with. In addition Presidential hopeful Donald is trying in a laughable manner to throw dirt on me. He mentioned that I did not pay truck drivers when I was in the process of removing the garbage crisis on the East Coast after the 2005 flood. The reality is that it was because of my excellent performance in cleaning up the East Coast and this included assisting in the process of cleaning up the schools that the President had me reassigned to the Office of the President.
What is important to note is that NCN did not see it fit to call me to ask for a comment and this reflects negatively on the management and the reporters there. Let Donald not try to point his fingers at me for corruption and let him answer where did they spend over 50 million dollars in clearing garbage when I had spent only 5.5 million and had removed the garbage crisis and I had to put workers in neck deep water to clear the garbage. On the final day of my involvement, I pulled in three back hoes and 35 trucks and cleared from Haslington to Better Hope and this included the embankment road while the private sector could not even clear one heap that was near to the Better Hope Community Center as they were using men with pitch forks. This is an example of how the tax payer money is misspent. Draw back seem to be the order of the day.
I have a particular question for Donald, “Is it true that D&I workers were instructed and had to fetch in two truck load of dirt into the yard of Donald Ramotar. And is it true that according to them when they became thirsty and requested water that the aspiring First Lady gave them water from the pipe in a jug and gave them a butter cup for all of them to use. The workers jokingly said that that they would not now vote for the cup but for the butter cup. Can the Presidential hopeful also say why is it that D&I workers were instructed to put up Donald Ramotar portrait on the electric poles. Tax payers’ money was paid to these workers. This smacks of total disrespect of these workers and also the corrupt use of government funds.
