Sewage spill at city courts
July 11, 2014 Β·
Sewage spill at city courts: Although the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) says misuse of toilet facilities at the Georgetown Magistratesβ Courts complex is responsible for the overflowing sewage in the compound, policemen and other court personnel continue to blame what they call a faulty system that came along the newly-commissioned building and are calling for a permanent solution.
The policemen lamented that the stench produced as a result is deplorable and that it is upsetting that they are forced to eat and dwell under such conditions daily.
GWI spokesman, Timothy Austin, recently explained to Stabroek News that the system was built to facilitate only waste products but that while unclogging it, workers have found paraphernalia, including underwear, cardboard, cloth and a pen knife.
Even though officials at the complex said the sewerage system was dysfunctional, since it consistently overflows and causes effluent to flood the main passageway, Austin said that the system is intact and indicated that the pumping station in the area, responsible for the drainage of the system, is fully functional.
