I would prefer a more Guyanese Africa centered celebration with traditional Guyanese African drumming and dances, the playing of the music of Guyanese calypsonians such as Bill Rogers and the celebration of the lives of some of Guyana's great Pan Africanists such as Walter Rodney, Theo Morris, Ivan Gladstone Van Sertima, Eusi Kwayana and Tom Dalgety.

That is just me.  I don't care too much about the street jump up, whine Up and rum drinking.  That is an alien Euro culture imposed on us. Although, this part of the celebration brings neo-colonialist economic benefits to the economy of Guyana with those large companies that sell alcohol and Western pop benefiting from it.
