Region 10 dominates choral presentation at children’s Mash competition
National and other songs and the sweet sounds of the steel pan resonated from the National Cultural Centre today as the finals of the children’s Mashramani competition continued with choral presentations and steel band preliminaries.
The choir presentation saw students of the 10 administrative regions and the Georgetown educational district performing a national song and a song of their choice.
Region 10 placed first, followed by Region 6 and Region 4 respectively.
In the steel band competition, there were excellent performances from Lodge, Dolphin, St.Rose’s High, Buxton and North Ruimveldt Secondary schools, Bishop’s High and Pan Wave
.
North Ruimveldt Secondary emerged the winner followed by Pan Wave, Bishops High and Dolphin Secondary respectively.
The semi finals will be played out at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Homestretch Avenue on Sunday beginning at 4pm.
On Thursday, the primary and secondary school students showcased their talents in the form of dramatic poetry and calypso during which social issues as domestic violence, child abuse, corporal punishment and teenage pregnancy were highlighted.
The day prior, students showed off their dance and masquerade skills. They performed at their best under the following categories: religious belief, fantasy, legends and tradition, social commentary, interpretation and ring dance.
Tomorrow, the Children’s Road March will take place, moving off from Parade Ground and culminating at the National Park.
Various sponsors have supported the Education Ministry’s Children’s competitions including Guyana Telephone and Telegraph (G&TT) company, Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI), Jermaine’s Enterprises and Courts Guyana Incorporated.
