Region Five REO transferred to Region Seven
The Region Five Executive Officer, Roderick Edinboro, has been transferred to the Region Seven RDC. It had been reported in the media that Edinboro had been performing his duties to the dissatisfaction of the Regional Democratic Council.
Region Five Chairman, Vickchand Ramphal yesterday, said that for the past few months, councillors of the RDC have been objecting to a number of decisions taken by Edinboro. Ramphal did not mention specific instances but the Chairman noted that the former REO did not comply with several requests made of him by the council.
Due to the alleged lack of cooperation, Ramphal reported that many of the Regionβs activities had been obstructed.
According to Ramphal, these issues were brought to the attention of the Ministry of Communities. He said that at various instances there were delays in the presentation of financial statements by Edinboro to the council.
Edinboro also served as the Chairman of the Regional Tender Board. The Regional Chairman reported that the council had received numerous complaints from contractors who expressed their dismay with alleged unfair treatment they endured.
Ramphal stated that he believes the reason for the transfer had to be the incompetence which the REO would have displayed during his time at the RDC.
Last month during the initial stages of the Region Five flooding, Ramphal had said that the council was prevented from carrying out its functions properly due to the slothfulness of Edinboro in carrying out his mandate.
According to the Chairman this placed the activities of the council in limbo. Ramphal informed that Ovid Morrison is expected to replace Edinboro. Morrison is the Town Clerk of the Mabaruma Municipality.
