Residents of 9th Street Cummings Lodge are elated that their street which was in a deplorable state for years, is now receiving attention.

Eddie, a resident of the area, said the rehabilitation of his street is something he was looking forward to, for years.

“We really appreciate what is taking place right now…the road was really sloppy and had a lot of holes…it used to hurt me to know I wash my vehicle on the road and in my own street going home it gets mud-up . We are thankful it’s getting fixed in a proper manner that we could enjoy it.”

Onicka Beckles indicated that over the seven months she has been using the street to access her home, it has been really difficult getting in and out, especially at nights.

Bibi Nafeeza Sheriff was overjoyed to witness the road she has lived on for 18 years being rehabilitated for the second time.

“Right now I see the road is being dug up and I’m happy because it means I’ll get a new road…the condition of the road was very bad with potholes all over…after 2006 now the road is doing back,” Mrs. Sheriff exclaimed.

Auntie Baiboo is thankful for the rehabilitation to her street as she has been waiting for a long time for it to happen. “We suffer when the rain fall, all the holes is pure water and the taxi don’t want bring you in… if you have a sick person you have to fetch them out to the head of the road… we will try our best to take care of the new road.”

This initiative is one of many being rolled out by the Coalition Government to bring added relief to commuters countrywide by transforming the country’s infrastructure.

The Sophia ring road project is another such initiative that will upgrade the road network of the  community, directly impacting the lives of residents.
